Reds starter Johnny Cueto (4-5, 5.11 ERA) has been inconsistent in his rookie season, but was outstanding in his last outing. The 22-year-old right-hander carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning Sunday, when he finished with two runs and four hits allowed in seven innings of a 6-2 home win over the Braves. Cueto has won his last two starts after dropping five of his previous six decisions. June 6, 200818 yr For the most part I agree. I could argue that 2 of the walks were his last two batters faced, but that's just a part of the whole picture. My biggest concern when looking at Homer long term is who got the 4 hits. 6,7,8 and the Rollins sub. He impressed me with how he battled the best of the best in facing the first five guys in Philly. He was mostly fastball/change with a little slider and curve mixed in. I'm starting to wonder if Homer isn't better suited for a late inning role. We'll see how it plays out soon enough... Listen to yourself. He's getting the best of the best out in his 10th start in the big leagues. Not everybody can morph into an all-star like Volquez. Having some patience with him in the minor leagues doesn't make him a crafty veteran. The more innings he logs on the big league level, the less you'll see the end of the order batters get hits. And Philly's lineup is stacked.

He has a very good outing and your wanting to move him to the bullpen? The Phils big hitters didn't hurt him and they have been killing other teams! I know you don't like him, but wanting to put him in the pen already? If Cueto had done the exact same thing that Homer did yesterday you would have been praising him.

If you look at the basics of what he did yesterday, it certainly would look to project as a guy that can be very effective in late inning pressure situations. Mostly effective throwing two pitches, pitched his best in high pressure, got tough outs against both righties and lefties. It's not a knock on Homer, just an observation on his performance...
June 6, 200818 yr When he did throw the cruve and slider they weren't bad. I've heard they did look good also. Maybe he didn't throw them more because he didn't need to. Its just funny that Homer throw a good game and people still, for some reason, do not want him to succeed. Now its "he only has two pitches" and should be put in the pen. Like someone said earlier, if Cueto throws that same game people are talking bowing down. Who do these people want in the 5th spot? Fogg?
