The Ky Colonels and the Cincinnati Sting played until it just got too dark to finish their game and so the Sting were declared the winners of the game, but in a tie breaker, The Ky Colonels won the 1st seed in the bracket, by allowing fewer total runs.

Ky Colonels 9 Cincinnati Flames 6 in a game not as close as the score reads! Flames took a first inning lead of 2-0 but then the Colonels bats came to life in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to score the next nine runs and take a 9 to 2 lead, before the Flames got three straight singles then a HR (grand slam), to make the score 9-6 but after the Colonels "D" tightened and got a nice 6-3 DP to close out the game, to move the Kentucky Colonels to the Championship round of the SWOL Tournament at the Lincoln Lee Complex.

 

BTW I love to watch as Cody Elliott runs around the bases going for a triple. Not a more enjoyable play in baseball than to see this young man literally flying around the bases...

 

A tip of Theoldguy's hat to Mr. Andrew Hitchcock for a big day at the plate today. Andrew took some BP after the first game on Saturday and parlayed that into a single, double and two big rbi's. Way to go Andrew!

A game that quite frankly the "baseball gods" had to be smiling down upon the Colonels today to help give the Colonels the win in the bottom of the seventh inning late this afternoon.

 

The Colonels again get down by a score of 1-0 after one inning, and 4-1 after three complete innings as Isler just didn't have his stuff today but then Cody Elliott comes in the third and completely shuts down the Riverbats for the rest of the game.

 

The Colonels score another run in their half of the fifth, so after five complete, it is now 4-2.

 

Then the game gets really interesting, in the bottom of the seventh: First batter for the Colonels goes FO 9. One out, no one on! Murray is sent in to pinch hit and E.J. gets a single. One out, man on first! Adams is sent in to pinch hit and "Doc" gets a single. One out, men on first and second! Maddox is sent in to pinch hit and he goes FO 8. Now two outs, still with men on first and second! Up steps Elliott who gets a single, and drives in a run. Men on first and third two outs, score now reads 4 Riverbats 3 Colonels. Nutini now steps up and hits a hard ground ball to the SS but he bobbles the ball, then tries to get Elliott at second, but all are safe and the Colonels score another run to now make the score all knotted up at 4. Maile is now at the plate with two outs and runners on first and second and hits a sharp ground ball that goes between the second basemen legs and Elliott goes all the way home from second to end the game. So for this game at least, the "Baseball gods" were smiling down on the Colonels!

Punttheball, thanks for the kind words. I do enjoy baseball more than any other sports and I was lucky enough to play a lot of it, back in the day's before grass infields, and aluminum bats. Because I do go to the games, and I love to keep score, it's easy to just post the information on BGP's so other like yourself can read it who can't attend, or just want to see how a certain playing is doing. What is hard for me to believe is the numbers that I see reading this Kentucky Colonels Summer Baseball Season thread. It's just hard to believe that a little over 1,600 folks have read my posting.

 

That brings me to a question for NKy.com. Why doesn't NKy.com cover any of these games (Colonels, Kings, Comair, etc.) as really nothing else sports wise is going on (at least in the Ninth Region) at the present time? Seems to me if I were a NKy.com boss, I would want my staff to be doing something during the long summer months prior to the start of the football season.

Love to watch as you, and watched two on Friday, three on Saturday, and three on Sunday. I am taking a day of vacation on Friday to watch the Ky. Colonels tournament, but as the cost of gas keep going up, I am afraid that the number of games that I want to attend but are out of town will have to be reduced. Just getting too costly to travel.

The Ky. Colonels lost the first of two games Monday June 9th at the University of Louisville vs. The Southern Illinois Bullets by a score of 10-0 in five innings. Thomas Towles was the starting pitcher, and the Colonels only had 1 hit during the game.

 

The information that I posted, was given to me from a Father of one of the players, so I don't have any other information about the game, than what you read above.

 

The Colonels play a second game today this one starts at 7:15pm against the same Southern Illinois Bullets at UofL.

The Kentucky Colonels lose their second game of the day to the Southern Illinois Bullets by a score of 11-1. Clint Hoskins stated and gave up 10 runs and Ryan Darner came in relief and gave up 1.

 

Was told by a Parent of one of the players that the Bullets were composed of all College Freshmen or soon to be Sophomores with a few HS Senior D1 signees tossed in for good measure. They were a very, very, good team.

The Kentucky Colonels play a DH @ St. Henry today (June 10) against the Midland Indians starting @ 5pm. Should be a great afternoon and evening of baseball, so come on out and enjoy yourself.

We have three college Freshman all of who are still young enough to play at our level. We also have a few 2010 grads who started in each game as well as several 09's and a few 08's. Just wanted to clear that up. That being said the Colonels have a nice team who can swing that bat pretty well. We were glad to have the chance to play them.

Kentucky Colonels 3 Midland Indians 4.

 

You know I truly don't understand why more baseball fans don't come out to these games. The weather was beautiful, the cost to attend is nothing, the stadium and field are outstanding, you can bring your own drinks and food with no hassles and the game, well it is a better product than what you find at Champion Window Field when the Freedom play.

 

David Etscheid started for the Colonels and he got into a little trouble in the first on a double and E-6 but got out without giving up a run.

 

The Colonels got on the scoreboard first after Elliott was walked and then stole second base. Maddox moved him to third with a 4-3 out, and then Maile hit a grounder for a 6-3 out, and a rbi. Colonels after one inning lead 1-0.

 

Midland in the second got a double and a singles but again were shutout in the top of the second.

 

The Colonels again get on the scored board by a single by Nutini, and a stolen base that Nutini got such a great jump on, that the catcher didn't even bother to throw the ball down. Man on second with two outs and Murray up at the plate and E.J. responds with a single to drive home Nutini with the second run of the game for the Colonels, but Murray tries to take second on the throw home, and he is gunned down at second by a great throw by the Midland catcher. The scored at the end of two inning finds the Ky. Colonels now leading 2-0.

 

Midland scored their first run in their top of the third by a single, sac, and then a hard hit triple to right center. Socre is now 2-1 Colonels

 

Midland again scores, this time two runs in the top of the fifth, on a single, a double, a wild pitch, and two more singles. So after five complete innings the score is now Midland 3 Colonels 2

 

Nutini comes in to relieve in the top of the sixth, and gives up 3 singles, and a walk, but even with an outstanding play by third baseman Matt Nichols who fielded the hard hit grounder while stepping on third and then throwing to first for the DP, the Indians still score their fourth and final run of the game.

 

In the bottom of the sixth with the Colonels now losing by 2 (4-2) and with two outs, Maddox reaches first on a E-5, and then Maile hits a blast that everybody thought was gone over the center field fence at the 390 mark, but the ball hits the fence and instead of going over, it's a double and a rbi. Score after six complete innings is Midland 4 Colonels 3.

 

In the top of the seventh Nutini get Midland to go one, two, three, and is out of the inning.

 

It's the bottom of the seventh and the Colonels are down by 1 run with Brad Krohman up to the plate and he singles. Walt doesn't believe in sac bunting, but Nutini goes 5-3 and the runner moves on to second. One out man on second. Nichols goes K but Murray draws a walk, so now with men on first and second with two outs the Colonels send up D.C. Craig but he strikes out, to end the Colonels rally and the game.

 

Really was an outstanding game and on a great night to watch some baseball.
