The internet boom is slowing down? Are you serious?

 

The internet bubble burst near the end of Clinton's second term and dragged the stock market down with it. The industry has since recovered pretty well, but there is no disputing that internet stocks were over valued during the 90's.

The internet boom is not as fast as it was. Furthermore, that is not what I was getting at. Due to the boom of the internet, more computers, electronic appliances, virus software, etc. were being purchased. That incredible amount of immediate consumption and investment spending is what kept the economy doing so well. I am not explaining myself well, if you understand what I am saying?

I must confess that NAFTA has been a double edged sword.

 

It has helped most of our nation and our economy.

 

On the other hand it crippled and economically ruined many places in our country as well. (I live in one of those areas) When your community literally has been built on Furniture and Textiles, you can see the ramifications for what NAFTA and Free Trade Act brought.

 

I agree 100 percent here. Clinton was no means my favorite president, and NAFTA IMO is the worse part of his term, I think economy still feels the affect of it today.

This is probably the only item listed so far that Bill can legitimately take full credit.

 

Every other item mentioned so far either would have happened regardless of who was presidient, gives credit to Bill when the majority of the credit belongs elsewhere, or cites a statistic whose definition was specifically chosen by the Clinton campaign to show him in the best possible light. (Remember, figures don't lie but liars can figure!)

Clinton should share any credit or blame for NAFTA with the 4 previous administrations, all of which also endorsed NAFTA.

Yes and even more of that sort of thing is being purchased today. The internet right now is huge. People are making millions of dollars on the internet.

What I have tried to get across in this thread is that Bill Clinton, as much as I despise him, was no big time liberal. And people are so upset with GWB that they are ready to elect some left-wingers (saying "look how Clinton's USA was") but to be honest, his successes (NAFTA, Rural Empowerment, cutting government jobs, welfare reform, etc.) tend to be conservative ideas.

Because welfare programs began and were expanded by liberals. Republicans pushed for welfare reform and provided most of the votes to give Clinton a bill that he could sign into law. Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson was the leading advocate for welfare reform and many of his Wisconsin reforms were implemented on the national level. Bill Clinton and the Republicans deserve most of the credit for welfare reform. Liberals fought against reform to the bitter end.

You are not going to find many conservatives on here defending a lot of what Bush has done. Certain things, yes, but fiscally he is a pretty mediocre conservative.
