This is easy NCC surprised people to win not only the All "A" but they won the whole dang region.

I'll throw a vote in for Bishop Brossart's Coach Bob Rowe and his staff. Lost eight starters to graduation, and all but one of his pitchers from a senior laden '07 team. Managed to finish about .500 against another very ambitious schedule, won the regional "A", went 10-4 in the region overall, won his 200th career game, and was a heartbeat away from making the regional tourney vs. Scott. Great year IMO given the unproven returning talent, and managed to even direct a previously little used JV pitcher to the next level. Another impressive season by a largely underrated head coach who always seems to get the most of his talent!! :thumb:

My vote would go to NCC's Schulkens. As stated before, he guided his team to victory in the big tourneys. And he kept the team unified during a prolonged slump that had alot of NCC blowhards calling for his head. Bellevue's coach a close second for doing more with less!

Coach Sanders is a great guy and a very good coach!

 

From what I've seen of Coach Sanders is that he frequently will put his team at a disadvantage by his constant nagging at the boys in blue. He's extremely unprofessional at times. It's always someone else's fault when he loses, even if it's to Silver Grove! Remember that loss? Everyone wants to put him on a pedestal for beating CovCath only hours after the devastating loss to the grove. As far as being a great guy, that's your call, I don't really know too much about him outside of BB.

Selecting a Coach of the Year or even Player of the Year, is extremely difficult. Often, many are deserving and could be selected. The selection is usually subjective and popular with some, not with others. Coaches will give everything they have for their players and often, the feeling is reciprocal. I like those, willing to question an Umpire, if he feels he is right.

 

There are some very solid coaches listed in this thread, all which could be chosen. I admire those men, who make the choice to Coach and make a difference, in the life of a high school student.

 

While some may only see a Coach, from the stands or the point of view of a player, others know the time and dedication given, to being a coach. To whomever wins, congratulations and well done. If not selected, if doesn't lessen any task, that the other names mentioned here have accomplished.

Just cause a team is ranked #1 doesn't mean their coach is COY. No knock on Krump intended there. To me COY is the guy who does the most with the least. And CCH certainly is no where close to having the least.

Coach Sanders from Bellevue did a great job of getting the Tigers program believing they can beat anybody. That is hard to do at a small school.

Don't agree. It's about who gets the most out of the talent they are given to work with - whether it's the most talent in the region, the least talent in the region, or somewhere in between (where almost everyone is). Even the most talented team has to have some solid coaching if they are to be successful and I don't think you automatically exclude someone because they are blessed with a talented team.

 

I'm impressed with what Wilhoite has accomplished this year at Boone. I think they have decent, but not overwhelming talent by any means. He lost his 2nd best player on his team. Just tonight his team advanced over another team (BHS) that I think is overall better than Boone. Congrats to him and the Rebels this season.

 

I do agree that COY is about who does the best with what they get. But CCH was to good and had too many good players to go down as early as they did.

Please explain exactly how he was "outcoached". I'm fairly sure that Cov Cath just didn't hit well and had a few defensive lapses and the coach is not the one in the batter's box or making the plays in the field.
