Bengals Release Thurman

Featured Replies

If that's true, I've lost all respect for Mike Brown, Marvin Lewis, and the entire Bengals organization.
You had respect for Mike Brown before this?

What makes you believe that?

Keeping the guy around for two years, and then cutting him for nothing mirrors what other situation???

Exactly. There's no way him not coming back from his grandmothers funeral the next day is the only reason they released him.

When did I say it mirrored any other situation? The reason that was given wouldn't shock me in the least bit with how pathetic the organization is ran.

From the article on the Bengal's web site, it appears to be a culmination of events, and this being the final in a series of events.

"The NFL provided Odell the opportunity to earn his way back onto our team, but we have not seen the right steps taken by him," Lewis said

This is pretty bad on the Bengals organization. Things sometimes dont work out how you want them to. You would think that the bengals would know that. For example. Chris Henry.

Wonder where he will end up? Cleveland? They need linebackers.

But wasn't it just a little over a week ago that Lewis said he was doing everything asked of him?

Talk about kicking a guy when he is down and the topper to it all is that the workouts were voluntary.

Yeah, like me having to work on weekends is voluntary. I could not do it, but then again I could not have a job too. There is no such thing as a voluntary workout. There are just workouts and lazy guys that try to find ways around working hard.

I'm sure you criticized the Bengals for dealing with players with troubled pasts, and now that they cut one for not living up to the expectations of the team, you criticize that??????

Nobody knows all the details yet, but if he isn't doing what is asked, they have given him MORE than enough chances. It also sends a message to Shirley, Purify, and Urrutia that they had better make good with their opportunity.

It's their fault for bringing them in in the first place. If all he did was miss a workout because he was attending a funeral and couldn't make it back in time, then that's terrible. If he relapsed, then he got what he deserves, but it still doesn't make the Bengals organization any less pathetic.

Yes. I just don't know what has happened. That sentence I quoted just jumped out at me.

The Bengals were hoping beyond hope that this guy would turn things around and would again be someone they could count on. No way they hold on to him for two years and then drop him suddenly because he's a day or two late returning from a family funeral - if for no other reason than it once again makes them the laughingstock of the NFL (something one assumes they are accustomed to by now). There has to be something more ugly to this story.

If he relapsed, then he got what he deserves, but it still doesn't make the Bengals organization any less pathetic.

This doesn't make any sense. They gave him another chance... he blew it... they release him. How does that make them look pathetic?

Also, I think you need to change your location bud.
