This appears to be a very good hire by the Cooper administration after a series of very questionable hires in some other sports. I wish Coach Sullivan all the best.

That's what a few people are wondering. I hope he has enough time to get a good full staff together. Most people are already in place for next year. W/ the exception of 1 very good candidate that comes to mind.

Are you talking about Pittman? From what I've been told, I don't think he is going back to Cov. Cath.

Pittman was the Cov. Cath. JV coach last year correct? Why is he not returning?

He was the Cov. Cath. JV coach. I heard that it was extremely difficult for him to coach there and be teaching elsewhere. I know he hasn't been coaching the Cov. Cath. JV team this summer. IMO, he would be a great asset to the Cooper program and if he is available, they should get him. He knows the game and cares about the kids.

The Holmes boys' basketball program, which hasn't suffered many defeats the past few years, took a loss over the weekend. And that loss, as it turns out, will be Cooper High School's gain.

 

The school, which will open this fall in Burlington, has hired Holmes assistant coach Tim Sullivan to start its boys' basketball program. In two years at his alma mater, Sullivan helped lead the Bulldogs to the state semifinals in 2007 and the state final in 2008.

 

"Timmy was a big part of our success," Holmes coach David Henley said. "He did a great job. We're going to miss him."

 

The Cooper job will be Sullivan's second stint as a head coach. He led St. Patrick to a 7-19 record in the 2004-05 season before moving on to an assistant coaching job at Mason County, where he helped the Royals reach the state quarterfinals.

 

In Sullivan's two seasons at Holmes, the Bulldogs went 59-13 and won back-to-back Ninth Region titles. Sullivan said his experiences helped prepare him for life as a head coach.

 

"Being part of a program like Holmes and playing in the state tournament, you see how every coach does it different," he said. "But at the same time, the coaches who are successful all have a few things in common. They have mental toughness and the work ethic to be the best. And they all take a lot of pride in preparation."

 

Henley, who Sullivan cited as a preparation fanatic, said he was somewhat prepared for Sullivan's departure.

 

"When you hire assistant coaches, I've always wanted to find guys who want to be head coaches," Henley said. "Those guys are driven and want to work hard. Timmy did a great job. He does such a good job when it comes to relationships for kids. When we're looking for someone to replace him, we're looking for someone who can do that. But it will be tough because he was great at that. The kids loved him.

 

"But guys are going to move on, especially guys like Timmy who are really, really good."

 

Cooper is slated to compete in the 33rd District. In the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference, Cooper will compete against Holmes in Division I.
