American flag taken down

Featured Replies

I don't know how to post links, but just read this. At a high school in California Mexican students took down the American flag turned it upside down, put the Mexico flag above it and ran them both up the flag pole. Don't know about you, but this really ticks me off. Now I'll get extra ticked every time a machine asks me Spanish or English. Before someone tells me we're the great melting pot I agree, but learn our language, and if english hasn't been declared our national language then one of our pitiful congesspeople should push for it to be. I do have a Mexican American daughter in law, and guess what she speaks english and so does my granddaughter.

I'd say those students will catch some backlash from this...From other students.

They should catch more than backlash for it....

They should catch a train, boat or something else to their native country.

I've always found the concept of "melting pot" to be a funny one. We're much more of a "tossed salad" in this country anymore, with most immigrants seemingly so concerned about not losing their home country's heritage that they never bother to assimilate into this one. There's very little blending going on.

Kids do silly things. I once heard of a group of students taking the flag down and running underwear up the pole.

What they did wasn't a practical joke, it was out and out disrespect for the United States. They go to school on US tax money, and then disrespect this country? I don't think so. Expel them and let their parents homeschool them.

In the form of deportation hopefully! :thumb:

I'd really like to have the facts on this one. Pigman, can you at least tell us where you saw this article?

:thumb: That's what I thought. I remembered reading something similar quite some time ago but could find nothing recent.

I understand. But, see, I look at any violation of the flag seriously. Just like my neighbors that fly their flag until it blows to pieces. They have it up to be on the "fly your flag" bandwagon, but surely if they looked at it, they would take it down when it starts falling apart. Whether it be this issue with the Mexican flag or replacing the flag with underwear, it is the same thing to me. I know that kids make stupid decisions, so I usually try to simply dismiss that type of thing and not look into it as deeply for meaning as some do.

I disagree. When you remove the flag and replace it with underwear, all you have is a pole with underwear on it. Without the flag, a pole loses it's symbolism.

However, when you replace it or fly another flag above the US flag, you are flying the flag of a foreign country on US soil and placing it above the US flag in status. Quite a difference actually.

probably won't (didn"t) happen....my guess is that legal American students are a minority at this school and would be afraid to do anything. Plus the fact that if the legal students were to start something they would probably be the ones arrested for rioting or breaking some law for retaliating.
