I agree. That goes in all cases. However, it shocks me to hear people promoting violence against kids in this one. Particularly disgusted at the reference made that my father, a military man, would have taken part.

 

Hey man sorry, don't know anyone in your family. But I would say you might be surprised and he might as well when he actually witnessed the thing going down. My dad was a military man as well and I had discussed things like this as well, but while visiting the Vietnam wall as a teenager there was some disrespect taking place there my dad had a much different outlook on the situation at hand. I am sure your dad is a great man and very responsible and I appreciate his service in the armed forces. No harm intended.

In the United States of America, the American flag should NOT be hung below ANY flag, and especially not upside down. If that is how they think about America, go back to Mexico....

 

I'm certainly not saying it should be. It outrages me, too. And, I agree with you that anyone who feels that strongly against this country should leave it. However, if we censor the right of anyone, even ungrateful idiots, to say outlandish things (physical displays which do not cause physical injury or inconvenience are the equivalent of speech, both logically and legally), then none of us is safe in expressing our opinions. I agree with you that they should, "go back to Mexico". I just want to be sure that we still have the right to tell them so.

Dad and I have discussed this very issue. He has had some situations like this actually come up before. First, he would never use violence with a kid (as this situation is about kids...I can't understand those that was to "kick their hind ends") and secondly, he understands that true freedom means having to accept when others don't agree with the ideas and issues that you may be most passionate about.

You are correct in your thought that all actions have consequences. However, kids tend to do irrational things that do not stand for who they will be as adults. I could give you about a thousand examples. However, most of you (not necessarily you) aren't seeing them as kids, but as illegals you want to get out of the country. If these had been a couple of (for argument's sake) non-latino, 10th generation American kids doing this with a "AC/DC" flag or even a Mexican flag, we would have just laughed or rolled our eyes and went on.

 

Personally, I am much more furious at my neighbors down the road that put up an American flag and allow it to disentigrate into tatters, until it is just a few bits of blue cloth attached to some metal grommets. In this case, I am dealing with a couple in their 50's. Over the years, this is the forth flag that I have seen them do this to. I even put a brand new flag in their mailbox late one night...that they put up a week later....and then about a year later was nothing but shreads left. Do we ship them out, too, for their obvious apathy? To me because they are adults and American citizens that SHOULD appreciate what the US is about, their offense is much more severe then what some teenagers did. To me, American patriotism is not about position, but action.

I find disrespect of our flag distasteful. It does not matter who it is.

 

I agree that tattered flags need to be taken down. I mow a cemetery that has lots of vets buried there. I remove all flags that start to show wear and tear and dispose of them properly.

TB&G, I agree with much of what you said, but I think that what many people are failing to see is that these "kids" are learning disrespect and hatred for America by their parents who are adults, most of whom have been granted amnesty by our government.

 

Metaphorically speaking, its like biting the hand that feeds you and I'm tired of being gnawed on.
