Merle Kidwell Named Skipper at Russell

Featured Replies

If I am not mistaken Coach Morris has been an asst. hoops coach since the Sparks Era.

Yeah, he has been an assistant for a while but he takes on the role of scout. He doesn't do much or any coaching at practice or games.

Congrats again Merle. Maybe you can talk Plum into giving up his golf gig to help you in Devil land.

Congrats to Coach Kidwell. I imagine we'll see some Clark County/Russell matchups in the near future.

Yes the Cards will be at Russell this year , but not to play the Red Devils. They will be in the Pan- A- Roma and take on Elliott Co. Hope we have our football players back by then or you will see a different group of starters and the JV team playing.

From a relieble source these are the new asst. coaches: Sean Horne, Gary Morris, Joe Bryan.

:jump:

What about Perry Yates?

Congrats to Merl, and best of luck. :thumb:

I also have heard several names, Horne, Bryan and Morris have been mentioned. I have also heard that if a job is open for a current referee there may be a spot open for him. He also applied for the head coaching job.

Who would that be?

Go get'em Merle, I hope you do a better job coaching than you do umpiring on 4th of July. LOL. Good Luck. I know you'll be great.

When has Cassity or Parsley ever coachhed their kid at a school sport.

I understand that Horne was interested in coaching there in the past, but he and Dodd did not see eye to eye. He then took a position in Greenup County.

Under Ronnie Back, Administrators were not allowed to coach. Rules must have changed...;)

Interesting that Horne recently pink slipped one of his non tenured middle school teachers who was a paid assistant of Dodd's. The reason given was "lack of funds".

If there were no funds, why is the same teaching position now posted?

Doesn't quite pass the smell test...:sssh:

I do wish the best to Coach Kidwell. He is a class act.

Wow, maybe this thread will make the "classic bluegrass preps" forum with all of it's twists and turns and conspiracy. Not since Robin Givens and her mother have I seen such wicked twirling about. Maybe we should all just pat ole' Merle on the back and say "go get 'em". Instead, we have what this old promoter would call whining and crying over who gets to sit on the bench. Is the admission fee over at Russell so bad that being on the staff is such a money saver? I hope that whomever gets to park their fanny on the pine beside Merle can withstand the flurry of jabs that no doubt will be used in the melee'. I think that Merle may get a pass with the talent that will return, it's the assistants that will take the bullets with this crowd gathered in this thread. Is there really that much angling going on over there? Does it resemble the crowd of young women at a wedding reception awaiting the toss of the boquet? Pick me, Pick me!

What does it matter anyway who the asst's are. They have very little responsibilty. Let's face it the axe falls on the head coach when things go bad and the credit goes to the head coach when things go good. As for some of Dodd's asst's wanting to be asked Skaggs maybe the only one that wants to help. Adkins is gone thanks to Horne pink-slipping him. Parsley wants to coach his daughters. Trey Edwards is coaching baseball. So I don't see any of them really caring who the new asst's are. Let Kidwell pick who he wants and quit creating so many rumors on this thread. I'm sure we will all find out soon enough. Russell fans be true fans and get behind the kids not the administration or certain coaches.

true... TRUE

Again, I say best of luck to Coach Kidwell and to the Red Devils.

What dad wouldn't want to coach or help his kids team ? Especially If he knows the game ! It's not like their kid won't get playing time if they are not around. I'm sure Skaggs would be glad to help if needed. Parsleys girls will also see plenty of minutes with or without him being there and I am certain he also would help or coach if needed. Kidwell has made good choices with his assistants and they will do everything they can to help improve the program. I doubt they have an instant fix but I do expect you will see improvement this season. Naturally we will hear from those that had one , seen it , done it, and been there , but I say they may want to climb aboard or pack their bags because for now this is the direction the Red Devils are headed.:fire::thumb:

Just to clear something up... non-tenured teachers are always pink-slipped. A matter of fact, I got mine today. It is just procedure.

I understand that, Mr. Freeze. I've been around Kentucky schools for a long time. This one is for sure... he won't be back.

I'm not making a deal out of it, just mentioned the fact. I think it's somewhat ironic.
