April 23, 200818 yr Today the Reds returned from a rehabilitation assignment and reinstated from the 15-day disabled list C David Ross (lower back spasms) and placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Saturday, OF Norris Hopper (right elbow inflammation)...Ross has been on the DL all season and made 13 rehab apps at Class A Sarasota and Class AAA Louisville (7-41, .171, 6r, 1 2b, 1 3b, 1hr, 3rbi, 6bb, 16k)...Hopper is eligible to be reinstated from the DL the first day of the next homestand, on 5/5 vs the Cubs.

He was the best pinch hitter off the bench last year, and is the only one coming off the bench with some pop in his bat. Surely you're going on more than 21 games to make a decision. What good is it to have Freel/Hopper and Hariston Jr. all on the roster?

April 23, 200818 yr Javy is a switchhitter That's true my fault on that, but against lefties meaning he's hitting from the right side he's batting .000. I mean really I can't stand Freel, but he can back up every position just about, so it's tough to say that we have four centerfielders. Hairston also plays infield. I just think Javy has been horrendous so far, and his numbers last year weren't impressive either. Plus he provides nothing else other than his bat. Not to mention, he is knicked up right now with a pulled hamstring, so I just thought for sure he would be the one to on the DL.

April 23, 200818 yr Marty wasn't blasting fans who show up to support their team, he was blasting the 15-20 idiots who threw baseballs onto the field after a Reds player hit a homer, and rightfully so. There's no need for such idiotic behavior. Can you tell me where the Reds rank as far as market size? Do you honestly expect them to compete attendance wise with the city of Chicago? Your post does nothing but give credence to GT's post about hate from the Cubs fan base. No, Marty was blasting Cubs fans as a whole. Among all baseball fans -- I can't attest to the Yankees and Red Sox because we don't see them with any degree of regularity unless it's interleague play -- but far and away the most obnoxious fans in baseball in this league are those who follow this team right here. Throwing 15 or 18 balls on the field, there's absolutely no excuse for that and that is so typical of Chicago Cub fans. It's unbelievable Why isn't Marty talking up the drunk fans arrested at the recent Red Sox/Yankees series? Enter "drunk Red Sox fans" into the YouTube search engine and marvel at the hits. The White Sox have had fans come onto the field in the past few years and assault a base coach and attack an umpire. To me, that qualifies as worse than a few knuckleheads throwing a baseball onto a field. Again, Marty has no place to criticize fans for throwing stuff on the field when he practically encouraged Cincy fans to do the same when Dave Pallone bumped and ejected Pete Rose in a 1988 game. As far as market size goes? Washington is drawing more fans than Cincinnati. Milwaukee is drawing more fans than Cincinnati. Kansas City for goodness sakes is drawing more fans than Cincinnati. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Cubs may not win every year but they market their team and their ballpark and put fannines in the seats. And they do it with another team across town. Again, given the variables with this year's teams, they are next to last in the NL in attendance. If you can't put fans in the seats, you can't increase payroll. If you can't increase payroll, then you won't win the NL Central. As a Reds fan, the lack of empty seats would concern me. Of course, the good part about this is should several of them decide to throw baseballs in the stands, no one would get hit.
