April 24, 200818 yr I wonder how long Jocketty will let Dusty keep Dick Pole as his pitching coach. I think that depends on how Cueto, Volquez and Bailey (when he comes up) progress. You can't blame him for Fogg, Belisle, Milton, etc. They were very mediocre pitchers when they got to Cincy.

The right-hander dazzled in his major-league debut April 3, but is still looking for his first win since then. Cueto held Milwaukee to three runs and five hits in seven innings of his last outing on Saturday, but left without a decision in Cincinnati’s 5-3, 10-inning loss. He has received only eight runs of support in 26 1-3 innings spanning four starts. Cueto will likely face Jack Cassel, whom the Astros plan to call up from Triple-A Round Rock to take the place of the injured Wandy Rodriguez in this game. Yeah but if you look at Bronson's numbers overall the first half of 2006 was the anomoly. Since then he has pitched closer to what he was before he moved from the AL to the Jr. Varsity league. Once everyone got a look at him he's reverted back to an average pitcher. I don't think that can be blamed on Pole.

Coffey I can understand to some point, although his problems seem to be mental instead of mechanical. However, with Bronson he was a .500 pitcher when he came to the Reds with a fastball that couldn't fluff a pillow. How, short of HGH or an arm transplant are you supposed to improve that? Arroyo was, is and will probably always be a .500 pitcher who eats innings and is a great guy to have around. He's never had the control of a Maddux or Glavine so when he throws 85 he's gonna get hit. That first half of 2006 was fool's gold. He had moved from the Varsity AL to the JV NL and looked better than he was.

If it's not Dick Pole's job to make him better, then what is his job? Are Reds fans content with what Arroyo is doing right now and have accepted the fact that he will not improve this year? I seriously think Dick Pole's job is the next one in jeopardy...much more so than Dusty's or anyone else.

I seriously think Dick Pole's job is the next one in jeopardy...much more so than Dusty's or anyone else. That's one of the big reasons that Wayne Krivsky is no longer GM. He's the one that left Dusty and Pole with having to trot Arroyo out there as a number 2 starter. Yes, he should be pitching better than a 7.56 ERA and he probably will. Just expect it to be more like the 15 game loser of last season than the 14 game winner of 2006 because that is more of what he is. Jocketty knows that and Pole's fate will depend on what Cueto, Volquez and Bailey become.

While I don't follow baseball much because it bores me to death but I listen to the Bob & Will show every monring on the way to work...anyways this morning they were talking about firing Krivsky (think that was his name??) because of how bad the Reds season has started. Here are my questions. Why is it his fault? At what point are these players not held accountable for playing like crap? Why don't they fire (or fine) the players that are sucking so bad? I agree that a coach has some accountablility but when you get to the pros I feel the athlete is just as accountable! Sorry if these are dumb questions but I really don't understand it.
