They won't drop as many passes; they won't be in conflict with the QB as much; they won't run out of bounds on 4th down shy of the 1st down.

Man, you're not getting it. We haven't called them cheap, we call them stupid. Mike Brown hasn't a clue as to how to field a consistently winning team. That's why they have one winning season in the last 17 seasons.

 

I agree Mike Brown does not have the football knowledge or talent that Paul Brown did.

 

He is far from stupid; he was stubborn for many years; he has let Marvin do a lot more than the previous coaches.

 

Everything was progressing well from the 2-14 '02 season until the last 3 games of '06; and they still had a chance if Grahm makes the easy FG vs. Pittsburgh; I know injuries are a part of the game, but no team would have survived last season's decimation at LB, 3 OL outfor much of the season, and starting a 3rd team RB most of the season.

Willie was healthy at the end of the year, played well, and not coincidentally-they ran the ball well.

Levi has been a Pro Bowl alternate for 2-3 straight years, so incorrect there by a long shot; his problem has been health as well, and this will be the first time in two years he comes in completelty healthy.

Ghiaciac is fine physically and another year in the system will make him better mentally.

Whit is very good and Stacy will start at right guard assuming all are healthy, which instantly makes them more athletic and just as physical.

Koostria, Livings, Santucci are all capable backups as is Williams if he is not a cap casualty.

 

Rudi was fine last year before the injury; Watson proved he can go if called upon; Dorsey did well as a change of pace; that is assuming they don't add anyone in the draft and Perry doesn't make it back.

 

 

This team has no where near the talent needed to compete. The running game is terrible, end of story, the OL is decent, they have no D, and no WRs. If you really think health was the only reason they struggled last year, you're being a huge homer.

The young players are starting to come into their own, and I expect the secodary to improve with all of them being in their first three years. If the Bengals get one solid DT to match up with Peko, like Ellis, or a good LB like Rivers, or Connor in the second round if he's there, matching up with Odell and Dhani, that gives a slightly below average LB corp... I believe they're running defense will improve dramatically with Geathers back on DE and acquiring Odom...

The Bengals still have plenty of talent...they're not a Super Bowl team, but if they stay healthy and the chemistry clicks, they have playoff potential. I understand the pessimistic outlook with all that's gone on with the franchise the past few months, but let's not take it too far...they're not the 2007 Miami Dolphins or an expansion franchise...they still have talent. And, despite what he says, Chad Johnson will play football in 2008, either in Cincinnati or elsewhere. So, the Bengals are going to have 85 on the field, or they're going to get some new talent in a trade.

On the first part, I do believe Chad will not wear a Bengals uniform ever again.

 

As to competing in the AFC North, I don't see how they will with no running game, and no WRs but maybe you don't need those things to win in the NFL anymore...
