Rick Bolus' new Kentucky rankings

goldenrule19 - why are you always asking about Gelawn, and "pumping him up". Almost all your posts are about Gelawn. Whats the deal?

Since you are questioning why he is not on the list, here is my personal observations on Gelawn...... Pro's - Very athletic, quick to the basket, great leaper. Cons - Not a good ball handler or outside shooter. Hogs the ball, and poor basketball IQ. I thought in a lot of games this year, he actually hurt Scott County from an overall team perspective. My guess is his playing time goes down the next 2 years with Jackson and Euton being added to the team.

I have seen a lot of these guys play the last couple of years. All in all, a pretty good list.

I was really impressed by Phares and his development last year. If he continues, I think he will be in the running for Mr Basketball. I saw Jackson and Euton several times for Rose Hill this year. Will be interesting to see them play at Scott County where they will be the showcase players the next 2 years.

Kimbro is the real deal and will be a top 50 national prospect.

2009 Mr Basketball - Hood or Phares, then maybe Sanford

2010 Mr Basketball - Euton for sure, Jackson a close 2nd. Then Pittman from Holmes

2011 Mr Basketball - Kimbro

Great thing is KY basketball talent pool is improving. I love it. Looking forward to AAU over the summer to see of of these kids.

Scott County will be preseason # 1

I don't think you can put Pittman there when he may not even be the best player on his team. Ricardo Johnson IMO will be one of the top 3 highest recruited players in KY his senior year. He already has drawn interest from BEast power Georgetown as well as a few mid majors. Pittman is very good, but he also didn't play as consistent as R. Johnson did all year, which is why he came off the bench.

I have not seen Jenkins play yet. But I hope no one puts too much stock into 1 AAU game. They will both probably play 50 games this offseason. Both seem to be very good players with D-1 potential possibly.

You are correct about 50+ games this summer on the AAU circuit. Jenkins will be joining nationally highly regarded Indiana Elite and will get started on those games at the King James Classic in Akron.

Hood will resume play for another top program in the Nashville Celtics when he's cleared to play following his injury.

You have all these ranked players going to play for AAU teams in other states like the Nashville Cetics, Indy Elite, OBC, why doesnt KY have an elite AAU team that travels?

Does anyone have a link to the complete 2008-2009 Bolus Rankings?

The Derek Smith All-Stars should be pretty good and able to compete nationally this year. They have 9 pretty good players with a good mix of size and nice guard play.

Sometimes its tough to get the top Kentucky players and prospects on one team because of economics. There are some kids that cannot afford $1,000 to $2,500 it cost to play for teams such as the DS Allstars.

Whereas the top teams in the county with rosters full of players with D1 offers such as the Atlanta Celtics, Nashville Celtics, New York Gauchos, and Indiana Elite may not ask for a dime from players and get the best talent and not just the ones that can pay.

How is Garrison Collins on this list? He probably didnt avarage 10ppg last year.

Montell Morones may just be the best player in Lexington. One name that also should be mentioned heading into next year is Matt St. John out of South Laurel, I'm not sure how much more he'll grow but if he gets to 6'9 he'll be a mid to high major big at the next level.

Didn't he play for JBS? How would he score 20 points if he only gets 5 touches per game?

I thought there was a team out of NKY that did that. I know that some of the Dixie players were on a team last year that traveled all over the country and said they did quite well. Did that team disband?

Shining stars are the elite NKY aau team. I know last year their team consisted of Hill, Jacobs, Hester, Pelle, Rice, and a few other pretty good nky players.

Hill, Hester, Pelle, Jacobs, and a some other players played 2yrs ago and got beat in the AAU finals. Last yrs Shining Stars won the AAU state and consisted of Nic Simpson, Henderson, Payton Ponzer, Grimes, and some other players on it.

This All-Star Team is very good. They started out 7-0 after the first two weekends. I saw two of the games in Florence and they beat the Jenkins, McGhee, and other Louisville players All-Star team by 22 points. Ferguson is the leading scorer for the team at 18ppg. They start the 3 Elliott kids along with Phares and Macon. Ethan Faulkner proved in the games I saw that he is one of the best point guards in the state running this team to perfection. Ferguson proved that he can score with the best competition and that he can drill them from way downtown, drive to the basket, or shoot that spinning fall away shot with people all over him. Make no mistake---Ferguson and the Faulkner's can play with anybody in the state and excel!!!

The first game was with 6 players and not the entire roster. It was a pick up team that had not practiced nor played their first game. They ran no set plays. The finals was a little different as they added two more players, but McGee ended up getting hurt in the 1st period. The championship game was played with DS playing Jenkins' team that had just played a game 5 minutes before. Playing back-to-back games they still kept it close and led most of the way. Jenkins at 6-4 was their tallest player and had to check Phares the entire game and managed to hold him to 6 points total. A DS front line of 6-8, 6-6, 6-6, and 6-5 was a bit much for this pick up team. It was a fun game to watch and interesting to see a box and chaser being used on Jenkins in the 2nd half. Even though they were exhausted the game ended up being a 3 point loss to DS. The West Virginia player for DS named Bivens at 6-6 ended up being the major difference scoring in the post and cleaning up rebounds and having several putbacks. But no question the DS team will be competitive.

Jenkins will join his team with Indiana Elite having a line-up including Colt Ryan 6-4 guard, Jenkins 6-4 guard, DJ Byrd 6-5 swing, Stephen Van Treese 6-10, and Mason Plumlee 6-10 all with mid and high major offers and Byrd committed to Purdue and Van Treese having offers from UK and IU.

Should be an outstanding spring and summer!

Is Aaron Cosby really that good to be put ahead of some of the seniors to be next year? Jenkins, Penny, and Phares just to name a few. Geez, he didn't even play last year.
