Rick Bolus' new Kentucky rankings

Featured Replies

goldenrule19 -- The complete list was not put in Fields article. Ge'lawn was in the additional players listed and a valid argument could be made to rank him higher for the upcoming season. Rankings are merely opinions and I expect to see a lot of players moving up or down in several peoples rankings before the start of the season.

It has been reported that Euton and Chad Jackson are or will be at Scott County. Add them to Phares and Guyn as well as some of the other talent at Scott County and the fact you only have one basketball. I believe the players and Coach Hicks will make it work but people being people and looking too hard at mere numbers will it affect people's opinion of these players because they may not put up astronomical numbers? I would hope not as this could be a very special team.

Let's take a closer look:

Dakotah Euton, 6-8 jr., Scott County

Committed to D1 high-major Kentucky

Jon Hood, 6-7 sr., Madisonville

Has offers from multiple D1 high-majors and mid-major schools

Chad Jackson, 6-4 jr., Rose Hill

Has offers from a few mid-majors and is getting looks from several high-majors

Aaron Cosby, 6-2 jr., Jeffersontown

Has committed to mid-major and NIT runner-up Umass

Jacob Jenkins, 6-4 sr., Manual

Has offers from D1 high-majors and multiple mid-major schools

Tony Kimbro, 6-4 so., Manual

Established self as top frosh in Kentucky and is drawing looks from a variety of D1 programs.

Most would say that's a very good start.

goldenrule19 - why are you always asking about Gelawn, and "pumping him up". Almost all your posts are about Gelawn. Whats the deal?

Since you are questioning why he is not on the list, here is my personal observations on Gelawn...... Pro's - Very athletic, quick to the basket, great leaper. Cons - Not a good ball handler or outside shooter. Hogs the ball, and poor basketball IQ. I thought in a lot of games this year, he actually hurt Scott County from an overall team perspective. My guess is his playing time goes down the next 2 years with Jackson and Euton being added to the team.

I have seen a lot of these guys play the last couple of years. All in all, a pretty good list.

I was really impressed by Phares and his development last year. If he continues, I think he will be in the running for Mr Basketball. I saw Jackson and Euton several times for Rose Hill this year. Will be interesting to see them play at Scott County where they will be the showcase players the next 2 years.

Kimbro is the real deal and will be a top 50 national prospect.

2009 Mr Basketball - Hood or Phares, then maybe Sanford

2010 Mr Basketball - Euton for sure, Jackson a close 2nd. Then Pittman from Holmes

2011 Mr Basketball - Kimbro

Great thing is KY basketball talent pool is improving. I love it. Looking forward to AAU over the summer to see of of these kids.

Scott County will be preseason # 1

One more I think might should be on the list is the Stenzel freshman from Clark County.

I really didn't start this thread to degrade kids and I hate that it is happening. I thought most players on the list are very deserving, but some of these kids are going to be stars and are not rated very high or at all.

Could you imagine a team with Nick Hudson, Gelawn Guyn, Russ Middleton, Ricardo Johnson, Elijah Pittman (who just barely made the list), and Evan Faulkner? Those are going to be some great players!

I think you need to add Jenkins to the Mr. Basketball chase. Manual played half of its schedule against top 20 teams the past season and Jenkins averaged at 18 points per game and 6 boards while being the focal point of every opposing defense. Jenkins averaged 22 in the Defenders, 20 in the King of the Bluegrass including 28 against Fayette GA's Noel Johnson (top 5 guard in the '09 class), and nearly 19 a game in the Louisville Invitational Tourney in helping lead Manual to its first LIT crown in 50 years.

You might wanna add Jenkins held Phares to only 6 points in a recent aau game while putting up 17 or 18 against them, not bad. There's a reason why they ran a box-and-chaser defense on Jenkins.

I know there's not a lot of 6th and 7th region posters on this board, but you have to admit 9 of the 35 or 40 players invited to the KY Allstars tryout hail from Louisville.

I think he missed a few, but that's just my opinion.

I agree with you. Jenkins is in the running for Mr. Basketball next year. There's alot of talent in the 6th and 7th region for the next three years. J'town is loaded with talent.

Just a word of caution. There are people on here that saw that game!

I have not seen Jenkins play yet. But I hope no one puts too much stock into 1 AAU game. They will both probably play 50 games this offseason. Both seem to be very good players with D-1 potential possibly.

Every year has surprises. Some top players shine even more as they have increased scoring or leadership roles. The same can be said for some talented players who didn't even start last year and now get the chance due to graduating starters.

One thing for sure, the '09 class does have its share of talent and depth and more than what some predicted. The 2010 class is very strong. Its good to see the trend emerging as it won't do nothing but help gain attention for future classes.

I was reading on another site that Euton is the top player going into next season. I just don't see it. He's a good player but I'm not sure he is the top player on Scott County's team.
