I will drop a name for folks to keep in the back of their heads for 2009. Josh Crawford, Corbin. This young man battled back from injury last season and he was obviously out of shape during that time as well. Look for him to re- establish himself as one of the top players in the state this spring and summer. If you recall he was ranked in the top three with Ballou and Jenkins for the last several years. It seems if you do not attend Mr. Bolus camps your name does not make the rankings....lol

That would be Darrin Ballou. He continues to get better. Nice showing in the KOB. Good inside/outside player at his height. I'm sure he will continue to get better over the summer.

The first game was with 6 players and not the entire roster. It was a pick up team that had not practiced nor played their first game. They ran no set plays. The finals was a little different as they added two more players, but McGee ended up getting hurt in the 1st period. The championship game was played with DS playing Jenkins' team that had just played a game 5 minutes before. Playing back-to-back games they still kept it close and led most of the way. Jenkins at 6-4 was their tallest player and had to check Phares the entire game and managed to hold him to 6 points total. A DS front line of 6-8, 6-6, 6-6, and 6-5 was a bit much for this pick up team. It was a fun game to watch and interesting to see a box and chaser being used on Jenkins in the 2nd half. Even though they were exhausted the game ended up being a 3 point loss to DS. The West Virginia player for DS named Bivens at 6-6 ended up being the major difference scoring in the post and cleaning up rebounds and having several putbacks. But no question the DS team will be competitive.

 

Jenkins will join his team with Indiana Elite having a line-up including Colt Ryan 6-4 guard, Jenkins 6-4 guard, DJ Byrd 6-5 swing, Stephen Van Treese 6-10, and Mason Plumlee 6-10 all with mid and high major offers and Byrd committed to Purdue and Van Treese having offers from UK and IU.

 

Should be an outstanding spring and summer!

Yes, the officiating was awful too. That excuse tends to be "used" quite a bit on these boards. No really, the officiating wasn't so bad.

Shining stars are the elite NKY aau team. I know last year their team consisted of Hill, Jacobs, Hester, Pelle, Rice, and a few other pretty good nky players.

 

So is this the team the Dixie kids played for?

Hill, Hester, Pelle, Jacobs, and a some other players played 2yrs ago and got beat in the AAU finals. Last yrs Shining Stars won the AAU state and consisted of Nic Simpson, Henderson, Payton Ponzer, Grimes, and some other players on it.

Your speaking of the Sunday games and I didn't see those games, but heard the same thing from those who were there. You are right about Richie (Phares) getting 6 points, but then I saw him get something like 25 points in another game. Richie seems to be up and down, but is a great talent. The one where he got 25 he had several dunks on the fast break and shot well from the outside. He also drove in the set offense and set one down hard. I am impressed with his talent and still remember the 39 points he laid on Madison Central. Leonard Macon has the body of an NFL Tight End. He is a man child. Most impressive athlete on the court, but Leonard doesn't produce like he should and gets lost at times and doesn't play all out at times.

He can be a beast around the basket when he decides to be which is right now only in isolated times. The big kid from West Virginia is very talented also and Donovan from Franklin County is a nice player also (No where near the talent level of Phares and Macon though).

 

The Derek Smith All-Stars play this weekend in Pittsburgh and later have tournaments in Morgantown, WVA and Las Vegas, NV. Fun team to watch and I hope to see them some more this summer.

No, there were no Dixie kids on the KY Shining Stars. Mace and Kendall from Dixie played for N. Ky Jazz. Some other Dixie kids like Jake Lawson and Stephen Pompillio played for the N. KY Royals.

I don't think attending the camps is the key either which makes the ranking more mystifying.

I actually bumped into one of the parents from that team. He said they won state as juniors and then finished runner-up as seniors. He said they traveled all over the country and did very well both years. Sounded like a great experience for the Dixie guys.

Rick Bolus is the biggest JOKE in the State of Kentucky when it comes to evaluate basketball talent. If you do not go to Blue Chip Camp you will not get rated! So you have to understand that fact! Not too say the players on the list are not good high school basketball players. But some outstanding players were left off! Call this list the best player at Blue Chip Camp last summer! Now if you want your kid on the list pay for them to go this summer! It will not help them get a College Scholarship but they will get some press! Just Call Rick Bolus or his other name Mr. Blue Chip! What a Joke!

Maybe not! But the list is still a joke. Do you agree with the ranking? Is Dakotah better than Phares? Not yet! You can come to Scott Co. Open gym to see for yourself! And I love Dakotah game. I am a big fan! He will be #1 in the future but not next year!
