What is the best activity to do to lose weight?:dancingpa

Cardio and weight training with less caloric intake than you expend.

I'm trying the Krispy Kream donut diet but it isn't really working out lol.:)

The P90X workout is where it's at ...check out the thread to it on here! Just a little over 1 hour a day for 90 days!

Find a BMR calculator online. Find out how many calories a day your body naturally burns and make sure you never exceed that number while trying to lose weight. to lose 1 pound you need to burn around 3500 calories. Watch your calories accordingly to your BMR. It sounds confusing, but it's actually not.

I'll give you an example.

My body naturally burns 2237 calories a day. Lets say I want to lose two pounds a week. To lose two pounds a week I would need to burn an extra 7000 calories a week. I could achieve that goal by subtracting 1000 calories a day from my BMR. If I were dieting right now I wouldnt eat more than 1237 calories a day.

Keep in mind that the BMR calculator is an estimate and is based on what your body does itself with little to no excercise. The more you excercise, the more you'll lose.

Also keep in mind that your bodies BMR will change along with the weight you lose also.

I'd start by cutting out all soft drinks. Drink a ton of water and you'll see a big difference.

Hope that helps a little.

No soda, no products loaded with sugar. Drink water, water and more water. Eat smaller meals more frequently. Do not pig out on one meal.

Also, if cardio isn't working anymore, try something like Jiu Jitsu or a martial art similar. Maybe even kick boxing. Those are really good workouts and you will lose a ton of weight.

Improving one's diet and regular exercise have proven to be the most effective and safest ways to lose weight.

Gimmick type diets are not natural and they are not good for you other than simply losing weight.

The biggest things I have noticed when giving dietary advice...

1) You need to cut your calories most likely, no doubt, but not as much as you think. A more important thing to remember is that your body is continuosly looking for calories to burn but it can only take in so much at a time. Constantly refuel with smaller meals or snacks that will replace part of a large meal. Imagine your body as a fireplace. You do not throw on 8 logs at a time to get the best results for a burning fire. You throw in a log every couple of hours to maintain a constant burning flame. Exactly how your body works. Throw in 8 logs (i.e. a 2500 calories meal), your body will burn what it can and convert the rest into things that make you put on weight. NEVER starve yourself.

2) If you are not doing some form of exercise a few days a week, DO IT. Not only does this burn calories, but it gives you more energy to complete daily tasks and will help you live longer... no brainer to me. Find an activity you enjoy.

3) It is ok to eat a donut or something bad for you every now and then. In fact, some studies have shown it might be good for you. The most important thing to remember is that in a week's time, you should be taking in 35 + meals/snacks. Just be sure to keep the unhealthy ones to a minimum and do not get discouraged and end a diet because you eat a whole pizza.

This is the best advise yet. I changed my eating habits to fit this and have had great results.

I also want to add that High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has given me the best results. Instead of just running a constant pace for 30-40 mins I do the intervals and accomplish more with only 20mins of cardio. I do the HIIT 3 times a week with normal cardio another 2-3 times.

So far I have lost 63lbs. since Jan.1st. by just eathing like a 6 inch subway Turkey sandwich for lunch and a diet tv dinner for supper. At night I usually have a 100 calorie snack. The best way to lose weight is to cut Calories.

I totally agree with Woodsrider.

Last year after years of yo yo dieting I found myself overweight, with high cholesterol and borderline hypertension.

I made two rules for myself.

1. NEVER diet again. Instead make some healthier changes that I am willing to live with. (like fruit instead of fries with my sandwich, pretzles instead of chips and dip, etc.) God knows I am not someone who is willing to eat lettuce for the rest of my life. Yes, I still had my Saturday night pizza!

2. Regular cardio exercise that I would be willing to do. The idea of spending an hour in the gym was too much, but I was willing to spend a half an hour four times a week.

End result was a loss of 25 pounds, dropped my cholesterol 54 points without medication (except fish oil), and very normal blood pressure.

I must admit that I tend to gain and lose those last five pounds, and I really need to lose another ten. However, I am healthier and happier with relatively little lifestyle changes.

Be honest and reasonable with yourself, make subtle changes because they usually lead to bigger changes. Exercise is very important.

Good luck!:thumb:

I must say that 63 lbs is pretty amazing if you're not adding in any physical activity with that. I've cut my calories, cut out pretty much all soft drinks (if I drink any it's usually caffine free diet coke), I'm doing HIIT about 5 times a week for an hour a day and I'm down 32 lbs since Jan 4.
