Come on that's enough with the Holmes had a harder road and they were tired. 16, 17, and 18 year old kids don't get tired physically only playing 3 or 4 games in a week they may be mentally tired with the pressure of trying to win a state championship. Most kids that age could play ball all day and be ready to do it again the next day.

Congrats to both teams on a great season but Miller was too much for Cov. Holmes.

Holmes is a pressing team. They have won probably 90% of their games this year from getting points off turnovers with their press.

 

I saw very little evidence of this all week.

This was my first year of truly getting to follow Mason Co. and I loved it. Its hard for me to believe what these boys have accomplished at such a young age. I want to congragulate them and wish them the best of luck next year.

 

For Mr. Setty, I loved watching him play this year and would love to see him get the chance to play at UK with his good friend Darius. Wherever he goes, I wish him the best of luck. I was glad he got to play and feel it would have been very unfair to keep him from playing. I know what the rule states, but if he doesnt get ejected, he should not be kept from playing. I'm sure it was a very difficult day on him and his family until the final buzzer rang.

 

And although I am not a big fan of UK, I will follow them closely the next 4 years and hope to see Darius become a great collegiate player. He has dominated the high school level for the most part, and I hope he can do the same beyond high school. IMO, and the opinion of many others, congratulations on MR KENTUCKY BASKETBALL.:thumb:

 

Holmes had a very good ball team and IMO, were the most athletic team there. Arrez Henderson (SP?) was probably the best athlete there, and the best defensive player. Im sure Holmes was somewhat tired, but the better team won.

 

Congratulations to both teams on great years, and I think we have seen why Kentucky Basketball is the best to watch. Lets hope the allow all teams in the state to win a STATE Championship, and not a CLASS Championship.

You've seen them how many times, 4? They were 34-3, including knocking off the #1 team in the state and then hung right there with #2 so they must have done something right. Give the kids credit rather than dissecting everything said about them and/or their team.

I agree, their press wasn't much but their half court defense was by far the best of the week. Mason Co. just dominated the boards.

I was thinking the same thing, not that anyone is making excuses for Holmes, they are just stating facts. We knew going in the upper draw was going to be the tougher road and it probably was.

 

With that said, when reading BPG back in 04, I don't recall anyone on here making excuses for Mason Co and the 29 overtimes they had to play before even making the finals. They lost to the better team in 2004, end of story.

The only thing I saw Arrez prove tonight was that he would be a pretty darn good 6'1 post player. Mason backed off of him and exposed his inability to shoot the outside shot where he went probably 1 of 6 from deep. He went by someone a time or two without the aid of a screen, but most of his buckets were inside on loose balls, put backs, and fast breaks. He didnt even guard Middleton that well tonight, who should have been his easiest assignment. Maybe he was tired from guarding Slone and Sanford the last two days, but he definitely did not prove he was D1 talent tonight.

 

If I do recall Henderson scored 18 points being guarded by D1 Darius Miller (Great Great player by the way). He spent the whole tournament guarding the opponents best player. He shut down Sloan, Contained Samford, and has shut down players such as Knowles (now playing at Louisville) and Proffitt (now playing at Notre Dame). So is Arrez Henderson a D1 player? Theres no doubt about it! :thumb:

I just have to wonder about Holmes sometimes, particularly the coaching. Why were they not really coming at them with full court pressure early in the game? They were very stagnant on offense tonight. I dont know if they were tired, but they didnt look the same. What happened to being 10 or 11 deep? I dont get some of the substitution patterns of the coach.

 

Mason played well and was the best team tonight and deserved to win. Congrats to them.

I am surprised at you totally discounting the fatigue factor. Holmes played four games in four days with the final two versus Paintsville and Lexington Catholic being absolute wars.

I state what I want, when I want, how I want. If you cant handle it, I wouldnt read it.

 

Holmes didnt press nearly as much as you and others led us to believe, that is why I saw very little evidence of this "great" press all week.

 

This is a site for opinions, if you cant deal with it, that is not my problem. I was stating my opinion, good or bad, on a team, players, coach, etc. and I will continue to do so as long as I am here.

His points came in the paint off put backs, loose balls, and the like. I dont know how many times I have to say that. He didnt beat Miller off the bounce, shoot over him, or anything like that.
