Mason County 57 Holmes 48

Featured Replies

What a tourney ! Congrats to Mason on surviving. That is what happens at the Sweet Sixteen...surviving. A lot of discussion on fatigue, past "survivals" to get to the finals, etc. The make-up of this tournament does not always produce the "best team;" but it does produce a winner and they are to be commended for their Championship -- hang that banner!

That being said, don't ever discount the effort of those that fell along the way. Many "best teams" have fallen, through the years, well short of even participating in the championship game. For those willing to belittle the accomplishments of a great run of the runner-up Bulldogs, ask yourself this: If Holmes was just matched on the regular season schedule v. Mason or LexCath, how many on here would have picked the dogs to win either game, much less beat them both...IN THE SAME DAY?!

Mason Co. and Holmes survived this year and both should be honored for what they accomplished.

Well said. :thumb:

At this point nobody cares. Game over, Mason won. Congrats to Mason. Great game and great memories. Holmes will be there again next year.

Sounds about right...

Way to go Royals...you made the 10th region proud. Great way for Miller and the other seniors to end their season. :thumb:

Holmes is a fun team to watch. They have some great talent coming back next year. Great season for Holmes, many did not pick them to get this far in the tuff upper bracket.

Goldie, were you in attendance for this championship game? Did you wear red or blue?

The timing of that blocking call did seem odd. I am not sure if it was a block or not but it appeared as if the ref waited to see if the shot went in and when it didn't he called the foul. I think Holmes has a great half court defense because of their speed and aggressiveness. I was suprised that Miller was not doubled when he caught the ball in the post or fronted to cut down on his touches that close to the basket. But sometimes that is easier said than done. Anyway congrads to both these teams.

I was thinking the same thing during the game.

Actually I don't think he was too surprised. After last year's tourney loss when he went home to his wife at one in the morning he didn't say "good morning sweetie", but rather "I can't wait until next year. We're going to be really good. I've been waiting 3 years for this group to become seniors."

That's a direct quote that was in an enquirer article. I think Henley realized the potential of this group last year when they stepped in for the suspended players and played huge. No doubt getting JJ and Rico back this year were a huge boost to an already pretty good squad though.

Then why did he downgrade the schedule from last year?

I didn't get to attend the game. My son's knee went out again. He is having his first surgery tomorrow. Than another in 2-4 weeks. I did watch the game on the web. Been a hard year for the Sunrise family.

Congrats Royals you proved you were the best team in the state of Kentucky and that tough schedule payed off greatly in the end. Your coaching staff has alot to be thanked for. You were always a fun team to watch.:thumb:
