Holmes looked very strong tonight and I expect to definitely see them playing on Saturday morning. They are a far more disciplined Holmes team then I have seen in recent years. Congrats to Coach Henley and the Bulldogs and good luck on friday.

 

Now off to the Radisson and the Hotel Lounge for a couple of adult beverages. This sure beats staying somewhere that you have to drive back and forth to.

 

They are definitely very disciplined this year. I know I was very amazed with how this team actually does seem to play team ball for a change. As long as they keep doing that and playing hard nose defense, they really can win this whole thing, and give the 9th its second state champion ever.

I do agree that Holmes can't play a somewhat lethargic first half the rest of the way if they want to contend. Their depth does wear people down though.

They were 23-52 from two and 12-22 from the line and 2-6 from three.

And as bad as they shot, they were still up 27 when all 10 of the regulars were down for good with about 5 minutes left in the 4th.

 

It's like Henley has been telling the boys all year "Defense saves when your offense isn't working."

I've come to see for myself what the state tournament is all about. That and to follow Holmes. I've seen the Holmes athletic director, Ron Madrick. He's nervous. I told him that he should not be worried. The Bulldogs should be just fine.

 

1st quarter: Holmes jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first couple of minutes. Scoring was spread out between 4 Bulldogs. Ricardo Johnson had a huge dunk at the 4:15 mark. Followed up by a steal and bucket for Arrez Henderson pushed the Bulldog lead to 7 at 13-6, halfway through the period. Bardstown went to a zone to push the ball outside. Holmes is proving to be too much, although early for Bardstown, up 17-9 with 1:30 to go in the quarter. Bardstown would commit 11 turnovers in the quarter and Holmes would capitalize with 9 points off of those turnovers. The first quarter would end with the Bulldogs up 8. 17-9.

 

2nd Quarter: Jerimiah Johnson started off the scoring for the Bulldogs by burying a three pointer, giving the Bulldogs an 11 point lead with 6:48 to go in the half. Elijah Pittman added a slam dunk to continue to extend the lead to 15, 24-9 as they have held Bardstown scoreless for the the first 2:15 of the quarter. Bardstown would finally score at the 5:20 mark in the quarter. Bardstown would be lucky to get the ball into their half of the court. It didn't happen often. Bardstown would cut the lead to 12 right before the half would end as the Bulldogs went into the locker room up 34-22.

 

3rd quarter: Holmes' defense is too much for Bardstown. Jerimiah Johnson has scored 6 points this quarter already as the Bulldogs have again held Bardstown scoreless for the first two minutes of the quarter, while pushing the lead to 19, 41-22 with 6:07 to go in the quarter. A Josh Nelson bucket with 2:49 to go in the quarter pushed the Bulldog lead to 23 at 47-24. Bardstown has two points in the quarter so far. Bardstown did add a free throw at the 1:20 mark but Holmes comes right back with a bucket as they have doubled up Bardstown 50-25. The Tigers would cut the lead to 23 with a couple of made free throws, but Holmes in command going into the 4th quarter, 52-29.

 

4th Quarter: Holmes would lead by as many as 27 points in the game. The JV Bulldogs came out about halfway through the quarter as Holmes continued to dominate Bardstown. The Bulldogs will move on to the Elite 8 and will face Paintsville on Friday.

I guess he didn't much mention the one Edelen blocked of his a bit before that. Edelen got another block of a dunk attempt in the game as well.

Henderson's dunk over him came after Edelin blocked his shot. Much sweeter revenge IMO. I much rather have my shot blocked than dunked on.
