Outside of the run Highlands had from 97-, when was the last time a team from the 9th won 4 region titles in 5 years?

I think there are a few sleepers who could surprise some people (St Henry, Newcath, Ryle), but none will be able to knock off Holmes, Boone, or CCH to win the region.

 

Holmes and Boone return ALOT of talent and CCH is CCH. They reload every year.

I'll agree that Holmes and Boone are ahead of the rest, but have to disagree with CCH. They only return 2 contributors and the rest are unproven. I would say major sleepers are Newport and Ryle, although both are unpredictable.

Covcath is an unproven team but I'm sure they will still be pretty solid with Maile and Shover. Maile will be a POY candidate. They key is whether or not they can get Isler to step up the way Schmerge did this year.

I have heard rumors(i'm sure they are just rumors) that Maile isn't playing, and I believe Counts could be an x factor as well as Isler. I don't see Welbrock as a great Varsity contributor, I've seen him play a few times and wasn't impressed.

Counts indeed could be the X factor. As far as Welbrock we'll have to wait and see. I saw him against Highlands and Holmes both and wasn't too impressed either.

Indeed. I think Highlands could be somewhat of a sleeper as well.

 

Kowolonek will be one of the top players in NKY imo and George Grote is probably one of the most underrated players in nky. Throw in Watson and Lother's quickness handling the rock and Highlands just might turn some heads as well. They will be somewhat young but not having Simpson practically all year and Mcgraw sitting out really helped develop some of the younger players though.

I agree with NCC being a sleeper. I don't think a lot of people are too high on them, but I think they have one of the best coaches in the Area with Brannen and they really have a lot coming back. If Pangallo was bigger he'd be one of the best pg's around, but even still he was a varsity starter all last year as a sophomore so he'll only get better. Shaun Meier had a great year on JV and made the most out of his varsity minutes, so he'll be a contributor. Jeramie Connor is one of those guys who can light it up and change the game with his outside shooting whether he's starting or coming off the bench. They will have Olberding and Geisler along with Roll down low, which in my opinion is basically the same type of play they had last year in the post just with more depth.

I'm not positive on that, but Olberding didn't look any smaller when I saw him play last year. He just seemed a little less polished at that point. He actually reminds me a ton of D. Geisler. Roll is more wide than both of em, and is in my opinion a little more of a project, but he could definitely take up some space in the lane.

I heard that two former players from the 8th grade championship team made Willie's basketball meeting yesterday. I wouldn't consider them basketball star's but pretty good atheletes.
