Don;t think I'm trying to take away from what Beechwood did this year. They indeed had an excellent year and I personally know Coach Schumate, but to say they will be a top 10 team next year is a bit of a stretch.

 

I don't think it is that big of a stretch. They beat two of the teams on that list last season. Also, they only lost to NCC by 4, Ryle by 5, and Boone by about 7. They might not be a top ten team right now...but it isn't too unrealistic.

WOW.....love the enthusiasm for Holmes ER and they are talented w/plenty to be excited about. Let's just pull the reigns in a little? A quick review indicates that every good player on Holmes will continue to grow with each adding at least two inches and NBA three-point range in the next two years! First, probably not going to happen.........second, are the rest of the kids in the region finished growing?

 

I seem to recall that in addition to Boone having a heralded class of 2010, that NCC won the JV tourney this year, CovCath won the Frosh tourney last year, and HHS was 20-1 as freshman (only losing to a good Ryle squad in the semis) as well as being Champs of the State Tourney as eighth graders.

 

The point being, none of those teams can claim to "have the 9th region run through them" any more than the other. They will all have the potential to be contenders in the next two years....some of which will be determined by who is added by surrounding classes or unexpecxted departures........regardless, the quality of play will be elevated but don't expect any of them to "not get beat by anyone around here" Should be fun to watch !

Just stated that with Holmes most likely having 4 6'6 kids in their lineup, they would be tough to beat. If you look at recent posts I never once said nobody would be able to beat them but rather many teams wouldn't be able to match up with them. There is a difference.

 

Also I stated next year that NCC and Covcath would be very good teams along with Boone. I even said Maile was my preseason favorite for POY so once again, don't think I'm being biased. Ryle has failed to live up to the hype that has surrounded them the past few years so why should anyone think the future will be any different? No doubt though they have a lot of talent coming through out there.

 

Also if we're going to talk JV teams, don't forget Holmes did go 20-1 and were undefeated until the JV semi's where a very good CCH team knocked them off on their home floor. There is a lot of talent coming up in nky. I just feel Holmes, Boone, and Covcath have the best over the next two years with Ryle Highlands, and NCC being just a tad behind.

Where does Beechwood fit in there? Also don't forget about Lloyd who very well could be a surprise next year as well. It's not a stretch of Beechwood being a top 10 team but let Beechwood prove themselves next year first. Moral victories don't get a team in to the top 10.

JK. Remember, 20-1 as freshman doesn't equate to 20-1 as JV or 20-1 as Varsity.......plenty of good ones out there to make it interesting for the Bulldogs and others.

Holmes only downfall could be not having a true big man. But then again if you're starting 4 6'6 guard, the big man from the other team will probably foul out trying to guard a quicker more explosive player.

Just stating they will be the favorites next year with what they return.

 

Even if the kids don't grow anymore, Holmes still would be starting atleast three 6'5 kids. (R. Johnson, Pittman, Arnold) All three are already 6'5, and Arnold is 6'6.

I've been hearing that Holmes could possibly be getting a big impact transfer next year from across the river who attended Holmes middle school 7th grade then moved away but might be coming back.

 

Does anyone have any truth to this? I'm not too sure how reliable the sources are who told me this so I thought I'd see if any of the Holmes posters were aware of this and knew for sure if it was just a rumor or not?

Lets get you into the old time warp machine and dial it up, to send you back in time to the CovCath High School gym for the 67/68 season. Oh and you had better arrive prior to the start of the JV game, as you won't get into the gym if you arrive any later.

 

Can you hear the CovCath Crazies as they start yelling slowly at first "Mote, Mote, open the door let the Colonels on the floor, Mote, Mote open the door let the Colonels on the floor, and then faster and faster for better than four or five minutes straight and then the loud thunderous cheering as the team comes out of the locker room....

Now listen as Mr. Kalein announces the CovCath starting lineup featuring Senior 6"8' Randy Noll (who signed with UK), 6"7' Junior Joe Voshkul (who signed with the University of Tulsa), and Sophomore John Vonleman 6"8' (who signed with the University of Dayton) and CovCath could have started Tony Nuremberg at 6"6' if they so desired, so while they didn't start all four, all four were on the floor at one time or another many times during a game......with Jimmy Cooper who was/is the "best point guard" that Theoldguy has ever seen play basketball in the Ninth Region....What he could do with a basketball was amazing.....

Hey we were smart enough in those day's, to understand that we liked having the girls near us :dancingpa:dancingpa

 

and it was Tony Kreimborg and I shouldn't have made that mistake.

By the end of the '09 season, Holmes will have completed a run of five out of six 9th region crowns... IMO.

 

If Holmes wins the crown next year, it will be four out of five. But who's counting?
