I would agree Highlands as a sleeper, but I don't see them knocking off Cov Cath like last season or beating Holmes.

In the games I watched Grote I thought he was a very physical defender who could take a blow or two as well. I expect him to be even stronger next season.

 

Who are the 2 kids from that 8th grade state championship team that are coming back out? Hogue? That would be a very much needed power forward.

I'm not to sure about Hogue, but Austin Collinsworth and Brandon Roller were at the basketball meeting. If these two do play it will definitely add to the defense and Willie's style of play.

Grote and Watson will be juniors. If Hogue, Collinsworth, and Roller come out, I think that would be around 10 juniors.

The 05/06 team was senior dominated and a top 3 team with Johnson, Smith, Vories, Guidugli, Eaton, Etc but yet they were 9-20 the year before. It just doesn't add up.

I just don't understand the reason for Highlands being up and down so much over the past few years? I'm thinking maybe it has to do with Willie not adjusting to the style of his players every year in order to be successful. There's no way Highlands should have a losing record with the talent they have there year in and year out.

Well for some reason the talent isn't there year in and year out. It used to be. I don't think you can wipe out whole classes and expect to compete. If all the above mentioned kids come out, there will be around 10 juniors on the team.

That's exactly the problem. How can you be relying on juniors who haven't played in 2 years? That's not how you build a program....

That's the point that I'm trying to make or ask what your thoughts are on. Could it be that Willie is playing primarily upperclassmen rather than combining the best talent that is on the team which is keeping other kids away from the team until they know they'll play?

 

Sure this year they'll be junior dominated, but Kowolonek is the only one with real experience. Grote and Watson played here and there as subs which is fine but IMO they looked best this year when those three were on the floor together.

This could be the second time in the last 5 years that the Bluebirds don't have any seniors. Does this happen anywhere else?
