Pittman is already 6'8, and Rico plays point for his AAU team. I think they've proven their physically ready. I'd say the only way or thing that stops them are injury.

Realize it's only summer AAU but Ky Players with all of that talent have been very underwhelming while Shining Stars with core players from Boone Co have competed on a better level and I think have the advantage in head to head as well.

AAU and summerball are two different animals. Different coaching, different styles, and different players. KY Players are mainly Holmes kids with one or two who aren't whereas Shining Stars are some of the best from around the state.

Also the same thing was said last year in the Boone-Holmes prediction thread and Holmes came away with a 20 point win and held Boone to their lowest output all year. AAU the Boone kids may have the advantage head to head playing with other schools kids but in High school, where it matters, the Holmes boys owned Boone.

I think its too early to declare any current Holmes player as a D1 player. Potentially? Yes.

There are no D1 players on Boone's team. Heck, there are not many candidates for D1 in NKY.

I'd say Holmes fans should remember the 2006 class when it comes to making individual player assessments for this 2010 class.

I agree with you to an extent. R. Johnson and Pittman have both showed they can compete and play with the best in the state as sophomores. They can only get better from here on out.

And I think you mean the c/o 2007...not 2006. 2007 was the Jefferson, Hill, Rice team and that team had too many egos. Of those players only Hill was a D1 player IMO. He had the size and strength but didn't have the grades to play D1 RIGHT AWAY.

You can't compare those kids to the ones of 2010. IMO the c/o 2010 is a lot better than those 3 and are both physically and mentally more mature than those 3 were at this point.

Still too early in my opinion. Its exciting to get the letters but ....

How will they develop physically? Can they handle the ball well enough at the D1 level to play outside? Will Pittman continue to grow? Still questions. They are off to a good start and , as I stated, have the potential but I'm going to withhold judgment for now.

My comment about the 06 team was meant to warn fans from overhyping players like they did for 3 kids who were not D1 players yet had been told that from the time they were in jr high.

Sure there's still a lot of questions but considering the way they played this year, you can only hope and expect for even better things the next 2 years. You have to be pretty good to start drawing interest from high D1 coaches as a sophomore which both Pittman and R. Johnson are generating.

Johnson is already 6'5 and Pittman 6'6. I don't think Johnson will grow much more but Pittman's dad is 6'8 so I think it's safe to assume he will grow a few more inches.

Unless Pittman has grown over the past couple months, he is only around 6'6. His dad however is 6'8 though so I wouldn't be surprised to see him that big by the time he's done growing.

I was just saying, that Pittman is tall enough, not to mention his body needs to catch up with his arms and legs.

Holmes will be somewhat young next year with only 2 seniors in Riley and D. Johnson.

The following year though both Keyvon Arnold and the 6'6 freshman that's coming in will both be more experienced which is why I give them a better shot at winning it in 2010 than 2009 when the Johnson brothers/Pittman are seniors, Arnold a junior, and Herndon (6'6 freshman to be) is a sophomore.

I still think they're the favorites this year, but just think it will be tougher than the following. The 2010 class is loaded with Pittman and the Johnson brothers. (Yes I know about Boone's 2010 class, but to be honest none of them are D1 like those 3.)

At least 1 of Boone's players is getting recruited by some small to mid-major D1 schools.

You are right in that school and AAU ball are different animals. Not sure I would say school ball matters more, however. Most college recruiting is done on the AAU circuit.

I believe that Boone beat Holmes each of the two seasons before last season, even though Holmes was favored.

I know some of the Boone kids have gotten letters from D1 and D2 schools as well, and I know of at least 3 or 4 that have gotten invitations to D1 elite camps. I think it's too early to tell if a kid is a prospect until the kids start getting talked to or their parents/high school coaches called by college coaches. Boone's kids probably have size going against them at this point.

How many D1 scholarships were landed in KY this past year? It may be increasing each year, but still only a very small percentage when you talk statewide.

Johnson and Pittman will need to learn how to handle the ball better to play as D1 guards or small forwards in my opinion. While Johnson is very good player, he does not have good enough assist making, court vision, or ball handling yet to be a college point guard.

Invitations? That's a surprise but very exciting for those boys. Which kids?

1. AAU ball may be where more recruiting is done, but I'm just saying kids rather win at the high school level than AAU. Also there is more discipline at the high school level than AAU and you're playing with kids you're supposed to be playing with. Not kids who are from around the state.

2. Boone didn't beat Holmes each of the past two seasons.

07/08- Holmes 57 Boone 37

06/07- Holmes 55 Boone 47

05/06- Boone 75 Holmes 74 (double OT)

^^^You also failed to mention neither Greg Rice or Nate Edmondson played in this game.

04/05- Holmes 68 Boone 50

Holmes 79 Boone 73

Thats one time in the past 5 meetings and 2 of Holmes top players were out.

3. R. Johnson has already received letters from college coaches (Goergetown U) and Pittman has received things from BCG since the state tournament. You have to remember college coaches are only allowed sending things to the high school coaches when the kids are sophomores.

Boone does have size going against them which is why I said they'll be really good but just don't think they'll be the D1 prospects that the Holmes kids already are.

4. Wasn't the same said about Henderson this year and he still landed a D1 scholarship?? You have to realize these kids are only sophomores. All these things you pointed out are going to be a lot better by the time they're seniors. Rico plays point guard on his AAU team which you have to figure will help him out going in to next season. And if they both grow a few more inches who's to say they'll even be guards in college? Pittman is already 6'6 so he may very well be a small forward in college if he gets as tall as his dad.

1. I think some kids actually enjoy AAU ball better because they get to play against better competition. I know the 16U Shining Stars are predominately Northern Kentucky players (Kowolenek, Earls, McDaniel, Popp, McLeish, Nichols, Gabbard). I think 3 of the Boone kids start on that team, along with Kowolonek.

2. Thanks for the correction. I thought it was twice instead of once.

3. I know for certain that at least a couple of the Boone boys have also received letters from smaller D1 schools, some multiple letters from the same school, over the last couple of years. I believe several others in this class have/will too over the next year or so. That's not to say they will land college scholarships, however. I definitely agree that because of their size/jumping ability, the Holmes kids have a better shot at playing college ball among 9th region players, but I think it's too early to tell for sure for any sophomores who will go on to play at a D1 school.

4. How old are Rico and Pittman? Most kids stop growing around age 17. Henderson's defense was a big differentiator, and I'm sure was a big factor in him landing a D1 scholarship. Rico and Pittman both have two more seasons to develop. They may end up being as good as Henderson, and they may not. Certainly, all of the 2010 class's best players will only continue to get better. There's a lot of talent in this class statewide. Doesn't Guyn play PG for the Players now? Is Cosby go back to the Hoopstars? He also plays point, doesn't he?

At least 1 of Boone's players is getting recruited by some small to mid-major D1 schools.

who?

Rico Johnson has gotten letters from Georgetown, and Billy G. has shown interest in Pittman, so to say its too early isn't true, but 2010 plays more as a team than 2006.

I think it's too early to say any soph is being recruited unless they already have a verbal commitment.

Letters and camp invitations are nice, but they don't mean a kid will receive a scholarship. My point was if that's what people consider being recruited, then fine, but I have seen/heard about lots of kids in ky on this board being invited to camps and getting letters. I would expect good players to lots of such letters and camp invitations during their high school year.

How does a kid receive a letter from a college basketball coach during their soph. year when NCAA regs. do not allow a college football coach to send a letter until Sep 1 of the player's jr. year. Or are basketball players just getting camp info or are the rules different for football? I hear a lot of people say that certain players get letters from coaches but I just don't see how they can while they are younger than a jr. I would think that it was an awful big risk for a coach to take. Does anyone know what the difference is???

Both will turn 16 over the summer. And I agree with them and all the others getting better over the next two seasons. The thing with Pittman and Rico though, and them being so tall, is that their bodies are going to keep developing to catch up to their arms and legs. Pittman has extremely long arms and legs as does Rico. Once they hit the weights a little harder they will be tough to stop.

Not too sure Guyn played PG for the Players though. Rico is the normal PG, but he and Cosby may have in the state tournament. I know the AAU coach likes to use Rico as the PG though because of his size/athleticism and to help develop him better as a guard for the high school season.

If you go back and re read my post, I stated that a college coach must address the letter to the high school coach but it can contain the prospect's name in the letter which is the case with Rico.

A lot of people who say they are getting letters from high D1 schools are usually just getting camp invites. I know for a fact Duran Jefferson was receiving "letters" from Kansas, Illinois, UNC, UC, Wake Forest, MIami (Fl), but all they were was camp invitations. None were official letters to invite them to the campus or a game for an official visit. Big difference in getting letters for camps and getting letters requesting a visit and film.

NCAA regulations allow colleges to send information about their camps and questionnaires to possible recruits during their sophomore year. This is the case for football, I assume it is the same for basketball as well.
