You are correct. I still honestly don't remember any frosh starting on that team. But any way back to the thread. I do not think Highlands will be as down as the other "off" years have been.

I personally think Highlands could be a sleeper this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see them as a top 5 team by the end of the year. Grote and Watson are both very underrated and Kowolonek IMO is a top 5-6 junior to be in nky.

After seeing Kowolonek play several times, he is the real deal. I agree he is one of the top juniors-to-be. He plays hard and has a nose for rebounds. With the Johnsons, Pittman, Earls, Gabbard, Popp, Kowolonek, and others, there's a lot of talent in this class in the 9th region.

I agree. The class of "10" in nky is very good. There will be some battles over the next two years between Earls, Popp,, Gabbard, and the Holmes boys as well as the very DEEP junior class at Highlands led by Kowolonek.

 

Should make nky basketball very fun to watch.

Is it me, or are people expecting Highlands to compete with guys who have not played competitive basketball since 8th grade? A lot can change between 8th and 11th grade, particularly in athletics.

I believe that they attended a meeting of the basketball program. Doesn't mean that they are going to be starter's and I believe Willie should be able to tell thru summer basketball if they are athletic enough to play as juniors.

Something for NKY to think about.....I've been talking to a lot of Holmes people lately and it looks like the rumor is true that they're getting 2, (possibly 3) transfers next year to go along with an already good core of Pittman, Johnson brothers, Arnold, and Riley.

 

One from Woodward, one from Taft, and another (didn't hear where he is from), is getting recruited by Wisconsin.

 

Don't know the positions but I know the one from Taft is a tall PG.

That sure would be a lot to keep but considering there will be no seniors next year, it might not be that bad of an idea.

I don't think you can keep more than 7 players from one class - even 6 is a lot.

It's a bad idea because the class behind them will also be non existent. 6 Seniors/6 Juniors/ 6 Sophs/ 12-13 Frosh. You have to develop the kids within these parameters. You start in the grade schools. You let the young ones get to know you. You promote the program to them. If you ignore the youngsters and someone else isn't, then you have problems.

True...which juniors do you cut then come try outs? Expecially with how deep the junior class is.

 

I'd say locks are Watson, Lother, Kowolonek, Grote. But who else do you keep if only two more should stay?
