March 10, 200818 yr Just wondering what everyone has to say about Tubby Smith now. At the beginning of the year all I saw on here was a steady stream of how Tubby had ruined or destroyed the U.K. program. Now that they have had a successful Conference season and appear to have a pretty good chance of getting into the NCAA the criticism of Tubby seems to have disappeared. When Tubby took over U.K. and won the NCAA tournament everyone wanted to say he won with Pitinos players. Can we now say that Billy Clyde has turned things around with Tubbys players? Whats fair is fair IMO.

We would've never won 11 out of the last 13 and made the NCAA tourney if they were still Tubby's players :thumb::lol:
March 10, 200818 yr Dead horse. Tubby did great things at UK. I wish we all could move forward and have any Tubby threads be about the success he is having at Minnesota! :thumb:

I think this helps support my opinion that expectations were reduced under the direction of Tubby Smith. The once standard bearer for college basketball was reduced to mediocrity during Smith's tenure.
March 10, 200818 yr Hadn't you heard... Tubby's players only won 8 games at UM last season. He's always been able to win with other people's players...

March 10, 200818 yr One day, and I thought perhaps we had reached it, we will be beyond these conversations. Who goes away first, Tubby or Lofton?
March 10, 200818 yr At the start of the season, these were "Tubby players". BCG turned them into "team" players. You might say they did all this DESPITE "Tubby's" players. Little personel change on the floor, traded Morriss for Patterson. Something had to be different for them to play harder. I keep remembering the quote I read from a columnist about Tubby and Billy D. He said one turned a mediocre program into a championship program and the other turned a championship program into a mediocre program. Apples to oranges, with one of the best talents from last year gone to the NBA and the one big-time player BCG brought in that stayed here hurt, we ARE NOT playing on thursday in the SEC tourney for the first time in a little while. No arguing with results, I guess.
March 10, 200818 yr What's fair for the goose is fair for the gander. As long as people go on the record as saying that "Tubby won his title with Pitino's players". I will give this season's credit to Tubby's players. Whenever the talk of "Pitino's second title" goes away so will my argument. National titles: Rupp-4 Hall-1 Pitino-1 Tubby-1 BCG- Hopefully TONS.
March 10, 200818 yr I still think Tubby goes away first. We have a ready made Mason Co./Lofton link for 4 years with Miller ready to go. can't mention Miller from Mason County without mentioning it's the school Lofton came from and can't mention CL without saying "UK would not take him". (This is sort of like the old Kevin Bacon game, just more infuriating.)
March 10, 200818 yr Hadn't you heard... Tubby's players only won 8 games at UM last season. That's about how many games UK would have won this year with OTS as coach.
March 10, 200818 yr The efforts and accomplishments of the second part of this season is due in part to BCG and the players alone. "Tubby's" players BCG inherited didn't even look to know how to move on offense earlier in the season, in no way can anyone say that the 11 of 13 squad is a reflection of anything Tubby Smith.
March 10, 200818 yr That's about how many games UK would have won this year with OTS as coach. Ten loss Tubby would have been Ten Win Tubby if he were still in Lexington. He knew it and got out while the getting was good.
