1988 Maysville Bulldogs coached by Mike Reitz. It will be the last run to the State Tournament for this school filled with tons of history. Reitz, the journeyman in the 10th Region takes a boat load of talented city kids and guides them to Louisvilles Freedom Hall. Maysville was led by two players that have since went on to a much better place in the late Pat Moore and Mike Case. Case could light it up from everywhere on the court. Jerry and Terry King, Jerome Turner just to name a few. I can still see Pat Moore setting on the rim celebrating after the regional championship game. Great bunch of guys and Pat Moore was a kid that defeated a bunch of odds in receiving his degree in college, coming back home and being the cornerstone in making lives for several kids in Maysville, Mason County so much better in giving the kids oppotunities both academically and extracurricalar activities. Maysville ran into a cold shooting day in Freedom Hall against I believe Larue County and were knocked out of the tournament.

 

Maybe someone else on here can chime in about this team and deliver some more information than what I have provided. Coach Reitz remains very fond of this team when the Bulldogs are mentioned.

I think the 1997-98 Fleming County team was the best team. They had all the size and speed anyone could handle.

This year's Mason team has to be mentioned in this thread. They have had a great year and represented the Commonwealth in a class manner all over the country this year.

The best teams has to be the two years that Lofton and company made it to the State Championship games. They win Lofton's junior year and lose his senior one.

Chris Wilburn was a HUGE part of the team as well, plus another guy named J.D Simpson. Both were starters and seniors on the team.

One of the best teams was the 1990 Clark County Cardinals!! They were coached by Guy Strong and made it to the state semifinals!! They were beat in a heartbreaker by Covington Holmes. They were oh so close to playing for the state title that year. Some of the members were Dante Gay, Chris McCoy, Shane Crum, Robbie Fulks, Rick Liggett and others. They won back to back regional titles in 1989 and 1990. They were ranked as high as #3 that year in the state.

Dwain Gay did play on the 86 team and go to Union College. Rick Burkhead Played four years of football at Eastern Kentucky and received free agent tryouts with the Dolphins and the Eagles. Rick is now an FBI agent in Dallas Texas. His oldest son plays football at Harvard. His youngest son is a senior to be at Plano Senior high with offers from Texas, Auburn, LSU, Texas Tech, Stanford, Cal, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Louisville, Baylor, Notre Dame among others. Plays running back but is being recruited as a db. Handshoe went to Lincoln Memorial and then Northern KY. Pulaski beat us in the second round of the sweet 16.

The 2005 Pendleton County Wildcats team has to be mentioned, they graduated three players in Belcher, Verax, and O'hara that all went on to play D1-3 ball.

Hard for me to give these guys any credit, since I'm a former student/athlete at Paris, but......

I'm gonna throw in two Bourbon County teams. Since we are going back to 1984, how about the 1984 Bourbon County squad. State Finalists. Coach Russ Day had Jeff Royse, Wayne Mogge making great plays all through the state tournament.

1998 Bourbon County Colonels were also very good, but got upset in the regional semis (Mason Co.) Can't remember if this was coach Day or Sosby, but they had Derek Robinson, Jason Earlywine, and I believe Preston LeMaster was a young guy on that team. Three of the schools top 5 scorers of all time.

We've had some really talented teams at Paris with the likes of Terrence Brooks, Alvin Sims, Clinton Sims, Chez Marks, etc. Just can't seem to get it done in the post season.

Im don't know a whole lot about the history of the 10th, but it would seem to me that you have to put all the state title winners up there, then the teams who didnt win it second.

I'd say 03 Mason is the best of the bunch, but all of these teams were really, really good.
