Just wandering, where you got the idea that Roenker would be the featured back.

Take a look at the whole post. I am trying to get an idea of how they will match up with "bigger teams" (size of players) i.e. NC, BHS, Holmes and Ryle; all teams that both CovCath and HC play. I think everyone knows CovCath and HC have never played. My reference point is CovCath because my son plays there, but most of his friends go to HC. Like I said, I hope HC does great this year, but if they have not put on much size and strength up front, on both sides of the ball, it may be a tough year. This is a forum for discussion, I think my question is legit....I figure a person with a forum name like Nkysportsblog might catch on to that. I apologize for the confusion, I'll be more specific in subsequent post.

 

This is all very true about these other teams and how we failed to match up with them size wise last year. But if anyone watched the HC jv games they saw 6'3 240+ Andy merrit, 6'2 260+ Mark nie. If you match them up with one of the smaller but i believe top 3 tackle in nky donnie stowers(6'2 210) and bernie gripsover(6'1 290) from the varsity line, we will match up just fine. And as i have already stated before, HC might have the most talent on O of any team we have around here. Also one more little bit, cov cath and hc are supposedly to have their first showdown in two years. No doubt the game I am looking forward to the most.

I hope they do. It should be a great game. It think you're right about the HC talent on offense, but winning on the JV level is not the only indication of how a team will do on the Varsity level. A team's off season program can make a big difference in how the season turns out, especially on the Varsity level and between the Soph and Jr year. I think HHS proves that theroy year in and year out. They have the best off season program in NKY and probably the most consistant success in NKY (along with Beechwood). From what I hear and have seen, the O-line hasn't gotten much bigger since last year. A team can have great skill players, but if they don't have holes to run thru and time to pass the ball, its irrelevant. If this is so, how will they compete with NC, BHS, and the bigger schools? I don't follow them too much, but the last I saw of them they looked small. Not picking on them, because I know a lot of them. It just seems the current sophs for NC, BHS and Dayton are huge comparatively. I know the current sohps for CovCath have put on some serious weight and size. These guys range from 6'0 to 6'5", 220 to 260 and are hitting the weights hard. I wish HC luck...they are all great kids.

 

How's the Fritsche boy doing? When we played CovCath when those boys were frosh, he was the one of the two kids (the other being the Keene boy) that looked pretty good.

No you are definatly right the offseason can make or break teams like HC or even holmes who have the great athletes but need size. Also HC is working hard theres no doubt, I know first hand, and the 10-0 freshman team will start to shine on to varsity, I think it should be another great year of football around here. He will start at one of the guard positions. He needs to work a little harder in the off season, but he has very good upper body strength and good feet. Keene will do well this year too. He is quick and has good speed. I believe he scored on a long run during the blue/white game. I think he will see a good amount of playing time, although Deters and Deglow will be the two primary backs. Both have good speed and run very hard. Isler will really suprise a lot of people. He is finally 100 % from the arm problem and is having a great year in baseball. I think that confidence will carry over to football. He could put up big numbers this year if the receivers hang on to the football, which I think they will. All-in-all, we should get to see some really top quality play from all of the teams in NKY. It should be a lot of fun.

I think one of the big lineman that you are referring to is Michael Leopold (also referred to as "Mike").......and of course, we can't forget Jake Keirnan.

Maybe not the best ever to play for Ludlow, but for sure the best they had last year!

And you may be able to fill his spot on the field, but you will never be able to replace Logan .

I forgot about the young Mr. Brown. Terry is good friends with my brother's. They had some great stories about how tough and crazy Garrad was growing up. Yet another Sandfoss family member ready for the limelight.

My question would be, and I know that kids can improve dramatically over an offseason, is if those kids were that big last year, why weren't they starting? HC's offensive line was ok, but there was room for improvement last year.

Thanks for the report and glad to read the good things about those two kids. I went to college with Keene's father (Jeff). Jeff is a great guy. Sorry I didn't acknowledge your response sooner.
