As someone who has coached now for many years, as an assistant at the varsity level, and currently applying for a varsity position I wonder if this is truly what I want to do? work so hard and have so much passion at something to be nonrenewed without any apparent reasons for my dismassal. I just hope the next caoch is able to live up to the expectations whatever they might be, apparently Coach Schultz did not.

Just some insight on the Bracken County program I believe when Wolfzorn was there his records were as follows 6-20 first year 12-13 second year 13-17 third year and 14-13 fourth year that is if he was there 4 years before resining. Coach Schultz's numbers pretty close 6-19 first year 10-15 second year 13-13 third year, with an increase in wins each year and a all A 10th runner-up and a trip to the region this year just dosen't match up as to why she would not be asked back.Things don't happen overnight when a new coach takes over . It looked to me like things were going in the right direction. I know that Coach Schultz will be missed by all the Players and Students I wish her the best of luck in the future she has a passion for the game of basketball and loves to pass that on to her players. I only hope that the next coach that they hire gets the upmost support from All the administration and All the Parents because Coach Schultz sure did not get this.

I also forgot to put in there that Wolfzorn also went to the All 'A' finals in the 10th and he too took his team to 1 10th region tourny.

If there are other candidates out there, say from surrounding counties Mason and or Fleming(hint,hint) that are more or as equally qualified as Coach K,they have to be interviewed and considered as well. Bracken has had mixed success(boys and girls) on staying in the County in the past. Just hope they go through the interview process and let the best man or woman be chosen.

 

I have seen them come and go at Bracken County. Seen some great players come from this county, Molly, Amy Flaugher, Annie mains and on and on. But we all know its a very hard place to keep a job, Sometimes there are to many people making the decisions , Instead of just 1 or 2. Bracken has a good team returning, Whom ever the new coach is, Just dont buy a home here unless you already own one( might wanna rent), hard place get to stay and coach... Looks like a deal almost that happened at St Pat to me..

Not sure that a coaching change will make allot of difference at this time. The problem with the program goes much deeper and higher, IMO. I think the AD has too many ties to the county to make good decisions for the sports department. What is needed is a AD without ties to the county and that has a passion for sports. JMO

Doesn't Coach Fields, former Beechwood coach, live in Bracken Co? Don't know anything about the before mentioned coach but she has a lot of experience.

As someone extremely familiar with the Bracken County program during Coach Wolfzorn's tenure, that increasing of record coincided with Hannah Jefferson and her class moving through the school.

 

At places like Bracken and other 10th region schools, the strength of your teams are going to be cyclical as strong classes move through the program.

 

Parents are notorious on not being patient and letting the players develop but rather want it NOW!

I don't know everything about this situation but I find it hard to believe that she was not asked back based on her record alone. There's usually something else going on. Not saying she did anything wrong, she could've just made the wrong person unhappy.

:thumb: And I am not sure that a simple change in coach will make that occur. Whomever is the coach will have to make sure that the girls are working on their weaknesses to reach the level they want.

 

It will NOT come with JUST a change of the coach.

 

There is going to have to be some hard work on the part of the players for it to happen.

 

Great post, these girls have got to realize that they can be something special before they graduate(which now is around the corner). Girls varsity teams uusually start making noise when the girls are freshman or sophs, this team has not, which maybe makes me think they are not as good as everyone thinks. If they spent as much time playing basketball as softball, maybe those changes would come. Absolutely nothing wrong with softball, but BC should have a regional title for all the time girls play and maybe they will one day. Hope fully whoever is chosen will make them realize all of this.

LBBC beat me to it. Coach Flora "Frosty" Fields has retired from the public school system and went back to coaching freshmen at St. Henry private school. The last time I spoke to her she was not looking for a head job, but you never know when the call comes.
