When a coach is not rehired there will always be some happy and some upset fans. This is not the first time Bracken County has not rehired a coach for no good reason. Seemed that yelling did some good for those girls as they won games and were very competitive!!! Seemed to have a pretty good relationship w/his players.

 

Look across the girls region and you will see all kinds of coaching styles. However, hard to say those coaches that yell a little bit don't have success!!! All you have to do is look at the region and the success is obvious!

 

Seemed Coach Kelsch and Coach Schultz had a little fire in their bellies! So I really don't think that style is important anyway!

Actually think the football program is flourishing from middle school on down and will eventually see positive results in high school. Who coaches the high school baseball team now? One thing that has to be preached at BC is that all of your athletes have to play all three sports in order for them to be successful, at least until your senior year, and then if your are a Chris Lofton or Tim Couch -type that thrives in one sport and has a chance at a scholly in that sport,then maybe play one sport(if you want to). As long as the basketball players don't play football or baseball, those two programs will continue to stay down. Sorry to get off of the thread topic, but it's going nowhere anyway,just arguing among so-called adults.

I totally agree with this. I've talked with colleagues a few times about how it's kind of strange that you don't see many of the boys at BC playing more than one sport. At a small school, you can't afford to have a group of your best athletes not participating, whatever the sport.

 

If you look at St. Pat, who has kids like Owens and Anderson participating in everything, I think that's a big part of why they've been successful not only in basketball the last couple years but also have a good soccer team and decent baseball team.

I can assure you of one thing: Former Augusta Lady Panthers coach Michael Appleman II, is not putting an application in at Bracken County! I spoke with him earlier this week and he is very content working with the Pendleton County Future Hoopsters program and the AAU program w/Coach Simms!

 

I will say this: He would do a GREAT job if he was to get the job! He did wanders in his three years at Augusta and how he made them competitive again. A wonderful basketball mind, a bit rambunxious, but a very good coach!

I know for a fact that former AD and basketball Coach Hammonds discouraged his players from playing other sports. Although that is not the case now, because many kids did not play at a younger age they are not interested in getting beat 63 - 0 every Friday nite.

Getting back on the subject of the lady bears basketball coach. Whoever is chosen will have a tremendous amount of pressure on them to get production out of this group that will be juniors when the season starts and not just to beat the teams that they should on a regular basis, as they did toward the end of the season, but beating a somewhat down Mason County should be a goal as well(and this is a must)winning the district. Except for Montgomery County next season and maybe Clark, Bracken should be competive against everyone else with the group they have. Also, don't be afraid to throw who will be a very talented freshman(next season)into the starting lineup. It doesn't take a yeller or a screamer to get players respect, saw enough of that with Hammonds. Coach Fite does it the right way. Good Luck to whoever is chosen, don't see that being done until closer to school is out. By then this thread may have 10,000 hits, who would have thunk it?

Why? Maybe that is what the Bracken girls need. Someone to get on the cases about not playing up to their ability.

 

I saw them play 3 times this year under both coaches and none of the times did I see them play, as a team, with the spirit and fire needed to play with the top 3-4 programs in the region.

 

Thus, my statement earlier about them being .500.

 

BTW, Mac Whitaker seems to have some success with some screaming and shouting.

Is it necessary, no.

Can it be successful, absolutely.

 

Was Mike Appleman successful at Augusta? Absolutely.

 

And it seems the same stuff that went down to get Mike out at Augusta is what is going down at Bracken.

Coach Shultz is gone lets move on. Should Coach Kelsch be tops on the list of names for a replacement, yes. Is there better more qualified Coaches out there, maybe.

 

To say that the Mike Appleman and Molly Shultz situations are simular. I am not too sure. It could be a case of only getting one side of the story. I for one don't know the full story of why they were let go but like I said lets move on.

 

This needs to be about who is best for these young Ladies.

Some of you need to watch some more basketball! There are many coaches out there that do a great deal of yelling and there are many who don't. Hard to argue which way is more successful, b/c both styles seem to work and be successful!

Well to start with i would say having NO expierence being an Athletic director or even a Asst. AD before being hired would classify as unqualified and being an Asst. Principal for 1 year prior to being a Principal and running the school is another one, just because you have your Administration dosent make you qualified for the position. I would think being hired as a Principal to run a School that you would have at least a few years as an Asst. Principal first, or at least some years under your belt in Administration.Two full time positions run by 1 person seems like an aful lot for someone with NO expierence. I wonder how many other schools in the state of Kentucky have the AD and the principal in the same person. Being hired Principal and Athletic director, are a little different then hiring a New teacher or New coach with No varsity expierence. And being Athletic Director is more then just being at home games, and going to meetings. IMO that is what i mean by UNqualified hope i elaborated enough for you Big daddy Bear.....

Do appreciate the elaboration. Although honestly Imo I would agree with the inexperience not necessarily the unqualified. I do agree that both jobs should not be held by the same person. Just as I agree that a Head Coach should not be the AD. I like the idea of a check / balance system.

Well, it seems to me after looking at the Kentucky Department of Education website that Bracken County does not have any teaching positions open and it doesn't seem they will have!

 

Now that the coaching position has been posted (legally must be open for 30 days) it would seem to me that Bracken has two choices for their next Girls Varsity Head Coach: Hire within their system or hire a para-professional to be their coach.

 

Many schools have adopted the hiring of a para-professional in recent years, but I would be very surprised if that happened @ Bracken County.

 

VERY strong odds that the next coach is already employed by Bracken County!
