LBBC beat me to it. Coach Flora "Frosty" Fields has retired from the public school system and went back to coaching freshmen at St. Henry private school. The last time I spoke to her she was not looking for a head job, but you never know when the call comes.

Let's just hope they get someone in before the start of the summer. Patrick would make an overall good choice because of his tenure as an assistant and his dedication to the Bracken girl's program.

IT would be nice too see PK get this job..... I have heard a rumor that there is another person interested that now Coaches the Bracken 8th grade team. Not to sure about that rumor.

I believe the best thing to do is give the job to Patrick Kelsch! A lot of schools do not open up their coaching positions and hire assistants, especially DESERVING assistants like Coach Kelsch!

 

It happened a couple of years ago at Pendleton Co. w/Chad Simms after Buddy Biggs resigned! It happens quite a bit to be honest! Legally the job has to be opened for 30 days, but how the interviews go if any and how the process goes is up to the individual school!

 

The fair thing to do is reward an assistant that has dedicated his efforts and time into this program as much as the two previous head coaches. He knows the program, he has coached in the program for a number of seasons, he knows the region and district, he is well-respected by his peers, he is passionate and VERY knowledgeable, has a good relationship w/the players, lives in the county, loves the game!

 

This is a chance for the Bracken Co. administration to get it right: AD, Principal, Superintendent, etc.. They have the opportunity to do the right thing and reward an employee that has been loyal and will be dedicated to his craft. Yes, he did interview for another head coaching job last year and was a finalist for that position. All assistants look to move up the ladder to be their own boss!

 

This is not about former coaches and what they did or did not do. This is about doing right now and hiring Coach Kelsch!

Great post TC ! I thought that Coach Kelsch was put in an extremely unfair and difficult situation at the end of the year after being named "Acting Head Coach". IMO Coach Schultz should not have been anywhere near the bench during this time. Not only had to be a distraction to Coach Kelsch but a huge distraction to the girls as well. I don't think it would be too far a strectch to say it might have cost them a win in the regional tournament. All Coach Kelsch did was handle it all with dignity and class. As well as wins. This man deserves a chance to lead this program. Best of luck, Coach.

Could we get a few more exclamation points from TC!!!!!! As far as Coach K's varsity wins, BC beat Pendleton,Augusta,Williamstown,Calvary and St.Pat without 3 starters at home, lost to Mason at home by 22 and Campbell County in regional(who they had beaten once under Schultz), not any teams Bracken shouldn't have beaten anyway. That resume doesn't turn the keys over yet, let the interview process run its course. This Bracken thread has already gotten more views than the Mason coaching thread which just shows that there is interest in this job from outside BC.

Well it seems to me that Williamstown had a decent season w/8 wins and a loss in the FINALS of the 8th region Class "A"! A 2 point loss to Trimble Co. for a shot to represent your region in the state tourney is a nice run for W-Town!

 

Mason County beat Bracken Co. 36 points and soundly early in the season!

 

To me and to many in the know, know this is not about a game to game comparison of two coaches! It is MUCH deeper than that!

 

As for the loss in the regional, anyone who watched that game and that bench, would have the right to speculate that their was some tension on the bench and that might have cost the Lady Bears down the stretch! I TOTALLY agree w/Big Daddy Bear!!

Hard to hold against Coach Kelsch responsible b/c St. Pat unfortunately had injuries at a really bad time of the season! You play the cards you are dealt, I figured if anyone knew that it would be a guy w/the name ALL IN!!!

I think if you asked Coach Kelsch, he would be the first to admit that the tail end of the schedule ( reg. season - and with the exception of Pendleton away and Mason anywhere) was the weaker part of the schedule. But games that you are supposed to win. He did that. You could look at several games during the season that were supposed to be wins, did'nt happen. St. Pat: got the win, not Kelsch's fault they were not at full strength and imo wouldn't not have mattered had they been. The Lady Bears were prepared to play that game.Won't argue the point of looking at the applications for the job but as I said earlier " Unless Pat Summit is interested in coaching at Bracken County". Only one name makes any sense to me. Patrick Kelsch.
