laniganfan29 Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Congrats goes out to the players that made that team but I'm kinda of surprised that the none of the following did not make it: Thompson from Grant County Jones or Ponzer from Walton Verona Shelton from Owen County No love for the teams in the northern side of the region I guess.

I'm not surprised no one from Walton didn't make the team but not because no one deserved it. The problem with Walton is that they don't know if they are in the 8th or 9th Region. They play too many 9th Region teams and not enough 8th Region teams. By doing this, the kids don't get the 8th Region exposure so therefore they are not even considered for the All Region team or any other regional awards. Too bad for the kids. Unfortunately, it's been this way for years.

The problem with Walton is that they don't know if they are in the 8th or 9th Region. They play too many 9th Region teams and not enough 8th Region teams. By doing this, the kids don't get the 8th Region exposure so therefore they are not even considered for the All Region team or any other regional awards. Too bad for the kids. Unfortunately, it's been this way for years. Walton played 18 games against 8th region teams and SK played 10 games against 8th region teams, but Maegley from SK made the all region team. So, where is your logic?

So, where is your logic? Take away the 6 district games (2 each against SK, Grant and WT) because they have to play them and the two All A games, that leaves 9 games against 5 other 8th Region teams. All of these 9 non-district games are against small schools (NCKAC teams). So for the year they played 8 8th Region teams all of which are in close proximity to Walton with the exception of Henry Co. In order to get exposure, they have to play some of the other schools in other parts of the region. Staying close to home and playing all the small schools won't get you any votes from the other teams. If they don't know who you are then you don't get their votes. Look at Gallatin County's shedule - they played some big 8th Region teams and this only helped get regional exposure for the players. WV needs to venture to other parts of the region so they can get region-wide exposure. They've had some good players over the past 4 or 5 years but they got snubbed from regional awards because no one knew who they were or seen them play with the exception of the local 8th Region teams.

If you are penalizing kids for playing better competition, that they are getting playing 9th region teams, thats just ignorant.

The kids are actually being penalized for playing the 9th and not getting exposure in other parts of the 8th. Even you should be able to understand this, it's not rocket science.

Thats what I'm saying, they shouldn't be penalized for playing competition, SK more than Walton. Walton is required to play some of those teams with their agreement in the NKAC.

Basically, all I'm saying is that since Walton has to play X-amount of games because of district and NKAC requirements, don't waste their other games by playing 9th region schools (example: Newport and Lloyd). These games do nothing for Walton. Schedule non-familiar 8th region teams instead so they can get exposure. That way, if they had someone who might be worthy to make the All Region team, other schools will see him and know who he is when his name comes up in discussions.

Sharp made it from a sub-par Grant team, do you want 2 on it from that team?

CincySportsFan Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I don't think any of us would hesitate to have a team comprised of the young men that were named. Fine tuning it with a swap here and there depends most likely on who you saw the most/least of during the year. As for the ones that didn't make it, I know some of them had some monster games and took their team and put it on their shoulders at time. However, maybe they weren't as consistent in their production as some of the others. After all, it's based upon opnion (which is not very scientific to begin with) and you have to draw the line somewhere. Congratulations again to all that were named.
