All 8th Region Team

Featured Replies

Take away the 6 district games (2 each against SK, Grant and WT) because they have to play them and the two All A games, that leaves 9 games against 5 other 8th Region teams. All of these 9 non-district games are against small schools (NCKAC teams). So for the year they played 8 8th Region teams all of which are in close proximity to Walton with the exception of Henry Co. In order to get exposure, they have to play some of the other schools in other parts of the region. Staying close to home and playing all the small schools won't get you any votes from the other teams. If they don't know who you are then you don't get their votes. Look at Gallatin County's shedule - they played some big 8th Region teams and this only helped get regional exposure for the players. WV needs to venture to other parts of the region so they can get region-wide exposure. They've had some good players over the past 4 or 5 years but they got snubbed from regional awards because no one knew who they were or seen them play with the exception of the local 8th Region teams.

The last I heard coaches scout and watch film on other teams if the players are good enough they make the team which is the case that can be made for Maegley.

I agree. It's unfortunate for Walton and the good caliber of players they've had over the last several years!

Who in the 8th region is averaging a double double? I know of possibly CJ Penny and The Shelton kid from owen.

Chris Hendrick from Carroll County

Chris Hendrick is a very nice player and someone who is fun to watch if you like excellent fundamentals and good basketball knowledge.

Totally agree!!:thumb:

This kid does battle very hard. However, it is easy to average a double double when you get the ball as much as this player has this year. I am not taking anything away from this young man at all. He has done an excellent job, but there are times when the team could be utilized more. As a former college player, I encourage Chris to keep battling like he has, but also to use his teamates. The players that are at Carroll County now I have followed for three years now. They have alot of talent in the junior and sophomore class. These players must be used to their ability in order to get wins. Good luck in the future Chris and congrats on the stats! I wish you the best! :thumb:

Sharp made it from a sub-par Grant team, do you want 2 on it from that team?

Sharp made if from Grant beacuse he is a very good, hard working Player.

Since you were "a former college player" you should realize that it isn't easy to average a double double. The last time I checked, having the ball thrown to you had nothing to do with how many rebounds you averaged. It's all about effort and hard work. Sorry, I guess I totally missed the point of your post.

Have you ever heard of Moses Malone. Shoot it, rebound it, shoot it, rebound it, shoot it, make it.

Having the ball thrown to you has alot to do with it. When you get many oppurtunities it becomes much easier to average double doubles. I have seen him in numerous games miss some easier shots and get his own rebound. This could have somewhat to do with rebounds. I did say that he was a good ball player and that he battled. I would just like to see him utilize his team more so that the Panthers can get some wins next year. Always remember there is no I in TEAM! I wish Chris the best of luck next basketball season and congratulate him on this past season! :thumb:

Agree with most of the list.

I do think that Josh Jones of Walton should be on that list but not everyone can make it. Also, I would not look for Walton to be scheduling anymore teams that are any further away than what they already travel. I also agree that this hurts the kids chances of getting the props that they deserve in the 8th region. (Jones is better than Sharp and T. Jones):thumb:

Hard to compare Sharp and Jones because they are different types of players. I do agree that Jones should be on the team though. Best player for a team that played good all year long.

They are a good group of kids. IMO they underachieved this year. They had some close games that they just could not close on. You could make a case for P. Ponzer as well but his attitude sometimes sends him backwards!

Kirk had some really nice games as well.:thumb:
