February 28, 200818 yr I have a hard time believing it's more expensive than replacing a wrecked car because you couldn't see in traffic.Ah, they usually get out of the way, when they see me weaving back and forth.... Has anyone tried the ole put a towel/rug on the windshield? I think I could get away with doing it as I live in the redneck part of town.Done the blanket, but then it freezes to the windshield, when it gets wet.

As have I.:thumb: What I really like to do is pull out in traffic, use the windshield washer, and then spread it with my frozen wipers that I didn't have time to break the ice off. Then I get a nice layer of slurry evenly distributed across my windshield. It's like driving while trying to see through your bathroom window. Done this one a time or two as well.:ylsuper:

I have done that so often that I have a designated place to pull off the road and wait for the defrosters to catch up. It doesn't really get me that much closer to work but it feels like I'm making progress. Plus, it positions me so that I'm facing into the sun which melts the ice faster.

February 28, 200818 yr Personally I prefer the extend-a-pole method. I happen to own one of those telescoping ice scrapers and I find it much more time efficient to just scrape off the windshield while sitting in my car at lights, stop signs, or generally going under 40 MPH. This idea must really be catching on because all the people at the light love to wave and honk when I drop the scraper and have to get out of the car to get it.
February 28, 200818 yr I've got a great idea! Drive a convertible, so then you can put the top down and stand on your seat if your windshield is iced up! DUH! I can't believe no one else thought of this! Sometimes it's so hard to be brilliant!:jump:
February 28, 200818 yr I think car manufacturers should give you a free ice scraper with a blade that actually matches the curve of your windshield.
