University of Kentucky Showing interest in Paintsville Star Guard Landon Slone....

Featured Replies

The Lexington Herald Leader released a statment this morning in its weekly spots section reporting that UK was at least interested in Slone and had called about him. The following quote is from the HL.

"Paintsville Coach Bill Mike Runyon got a call from UK assistant Jeremy Cox, who told him the Cats might want to take a look at Tigers star Landon Slone. Paintsville plays Johnson Central on Friday night. Slone, a 6-3 senior guard, is averaging 26 points."

the following DI schools have been recruiting Slone or have contacted about him according to some information I read....

LA-Monroe,Marshall,Charlotte,Arkansas,Louisville, and now UK....NAIA power Georgetown(KY)has offered him a Full ride.

I don't Know but he sounds like a Mr. Basketball Canidate to me, but he obviously will not be considered because he's from Eastern KY reguardless of his stats and and teams performance. I'd put him in the top 5 in the state with Miller,Mack,Hopson, and Henderson....jmo.

I never seen this kid play but heard of him thepast couple years. With his numbers and all the colleges contacting him he must be the real deal. Have to get out and watch this kid play.

Hopefully he will lead his team to Rupp and we'll get to see him there. What region is P-ville in?

I've never seen him play, but I can assure you that being from EKY has nothing to do with why he won't win Mr. Basketball. First of all, there's Scotty Hopson and everyone else. Second, look at the schools that Miller, Mack, and Hopson are going to. Miller - UK. Mack - Butler (Top 15 team). Hopson - Wherever he wants. Not sure Where Henderson is going. But I can assure you that this kid is not in the same league as Hopson.

Another thought to point out is that no one notices UHA point guard TyShawn Edmonson, due to the very large shadow that Hopson casts, but I think Edmonson could be mentioned as one of the top players in the state.

You mean like Charles Thomas, JR VanHoose,Richie Farmer, John Pelphrey, and Todd May? That EKY?

Maybe he can carry on the Paintsville tradition started by Todd Tackett.

I'm pretty sure he's saying that he "should" be considered but doesn't think he will because his team is from EKY and doesn't play against the best competition in the state.

Just think how good Hopson would be if he played Defense!:jump:

He plays defense kind of like he plays offense, when he wants to or feels like it. I've seen him play some amazing defense, blocking shots, steals, intercepting passes, and just creating turnovers. Then, I've also seen him watch his teammate get beat and just stand back and watch the opponent score. He does the same sort of thing on the offensive end of the floor, sometimes he'll score at will, literally, and sometimes he'll just stand around and pass.

Not that this is a good excuse but I think sometimes it's hard for a kid like Hopson to play 100% the entire game when there isn't much challenge, no one else out there is even in his league. It makes me wonder if he played any harder during the summer playing AAU ball and at the camps he went to. He would have been playing against much better competition there. If that is the case, that he just needs some competition, then he could be scary good next year in college.

I would love to see an EKY boy break the mold.

I can see Kentucky offering Slone a walk-on slot ... he's a nice player, better than I gave him credit for before this year, but he looks like a mid-major guard at best.
