TOG, do you know if there was only 13 upperclassmen (11 juniors and 2 seniors) that even tried out for CCH baseball? Someone close to the school told me that, but I find it almost incredulous that a school the size of CCH and with their baseball rich tradition would only have 13 players try out. Now granted, the majority of those 13 boys are very good players, but still . . . .

 

I heard many players are driven away due to politics. I have no affiliation with the program, but this is just what I hear. This could explain past players that have quit.

I think the only 2 seniors who could help this team that are not playing are Grimes and Bondick. My guess is that they decided to be strictly basketball. Other than them, I don't think there are many seniors that would start.

For some odd reason, I've always been under the (mistaken) impression that you could take the players left over after CCH's varsity cuts and formed a second "varsity calibre" squad that could probably compete with the vast majority of teams in the ninth. I guess such is not true.

I think there is a reason why the "kids" aren't trying out. Some "kids" are tired of the, hmmm, how can I say this, interference with the program. What does it say when a person orders team jackets and equipment for the whole team and somehow some players are left out. It's a shame that someone is threatened by a "kids" talent vs another's lack there of. This Junior class at CovCath is very special but some needs to let the "kids" alone.

So Coach Krumps who has coached at CovCath for something like 32 years, who has won a State Title, has won close to 650 games, has been the high school coach to at least one other now high school coach, and has won many, many more other arwards doesn't understand talent, and can get bought off? I don't think so!!!

And David Duncan quit baseball to play Lacrosse also last year, but David saw a whole lot more action on the Lacrosse field than he would have seen on the ball diamond.

 

Give kids some credit. They understand how much talent they have and they understand whether they would be starting or not on a team. Not many kids these day's are willing to sit on the bench and be a sub, and would rather play another sport where they can start, than sit. Where would have Gerwe, or Darpel have started at, for CovCath this season, since neither played a inning of varsity last year?

 

CovCath being the football school it is now day's, (even bigger than basketball), it doesn't surprise me one bit, that Lacrosse is a up and coming sport at CovCath. I just wonder when some of the better football playing public schools will start playing it, and wonder too when the KHSAA will sanction the sport. Am indeed surprised that my good friends at HHS and Ryle don't have a Lacrosse team by now!

Wow. Are you sure neither of them could have helped out this team at all? Both are solid players, and while I would agree that they were not going to be the nucleus of the CCH team by any stretch, I also find it hard to believe they had nothing of value to offer. Gerwe is a pretty solid hitter and I would think could have DH'ed at a minimum.

 

Possible that certain kids are being guaranteed spots in advance and therefore making it a frustrating and pointless exercise for other kids to try out hoping to get a fair chance at a starting spot? Just asking, not stating.

There may be others who have done the same thing this year, but those two are the two I heard for certain. Not saying that they would be leaders for the team this year, but I suspect they both would contribute not only this year, but next year as well. I too wonder when other NKY schools will start a Lacrosse program. It is an exciting game, and the boys really enjoy it. I for one was surprised at how physical the boys game is actually. I think that is one of the reasons they like it.

 

I was very surprised when I heard the numbers going out for baseball. Last I heard there were only 18 or 19 freshman trying out. I would guess they all might make the team then. Not sure
