I am pretty sure everybody is "thinking" right now on if they are going to be good or not. Nobody is sure of anything because they have not proved themselves. You cant say they are good or bad if they haven't played a game yet.

 

I don't buy any "they look good in practice" stuff because you aren't facing another team. It will be interesting to see how they do. I see them as 3rd or 4th best team in the 9th.

I just don't feel that Ryle should have 3 or 4 players on the all region team. Yes, they will be decent this year I just don't seeing them contending with the Boone County, Cov Caths, and Beechwoods.

In fact, I question whether Boone has the pitching to compete with the others. Cov Cath and Ryle are the teams to beat until someone proves differently. I also believe they only lost one senior and still have 8 starters returning with a very deep pitching staff including Elliot, Hadden, Snyder(?), Larimore, and Smith. They also have the most underated hitter in the 9th region Adam Gohs.

Yes, you are right in the fact that they lost. Both of those teams lost 5 or more seniors. I'm talking about this year not last and the expierience of all of Beechwood will benefit them in the long run.

Look, I think Beechwood is good and may end up being the regions's best, but the fact of the matter is that you have younger kids getting varsity "experience" because you are a smaller school that doesn't have the luxury to leave very, very good players down at the JV level as does Ryle and CCH. This whole "experience" thing is grossly overrated. These boys all play select summer ball and get plenty of quality "experience". If Beechwood beats Ryle and CC, it will not be because they are more experienced - it will be because they have the better players, period.

For the most part a highly successful JV team would normally translate into success at the varsity level, would you not think? The schools to which you refer not having their best players at the JV level (because they are already playing at the varsity level) are genrally the smaller schools. Without mentioning any specific schools, the simple undeniable fact is that smaller schools tend to have underclassman play up at the varsity level simply due to a numbers issue. It does not mean these are quality varsity players or even high quality JV players, for that matter. It means there really isn't enough talent in the well at that school to field quality teams at both levels. Again, that is not directed at any specific school, as I'm sure there are many indivudal exceptions.

 

I can assure you that Ryle had 1/2 dozen kids (or more) on their JV roster last year that would've made and played varsity on just about any NKY school. They simply have a policy that they don't normally allow sophomores to play varsity. So these kids coming up from JV are all very good, very experienced, varsity-caliber players.

Beechwood was "mercy ruled" by Ryle last year 10 -0 and almost again in the Regional tourney 11-4. It will be Ryle and Cov Cath until someone steps up and knocks them off. Boone will not finish in the to 10 this year.

Maybe a tad harsh, DD. :lol: They still have some nice talent returning and any team with Reed and Farris is going to compete. But until we see if they have any meaningful pitching depth, I would agree that they aren't a top 5 team.

Nutini has to be included in the outfield, Isler at first, and I think Shover will be in the mix at second or ss by mid season.
