My last post on the Best SS in NKY received some great responses. Now lets take it one step further, Name the Best At Each Position in NKY.

Catcher - Maile (Top Prospect)

First Base Brake (Sweet Swing)

Second Base - Murray - Scott (Great Baseball Skills)

Third Base - Slusher - beechwood (Hitters Position and he can hit)

Shortstop Holocher - Cov Cath (Started as a sophomore and played for Walt very tatented)

Outfield (3) Elliot, Nutini & Farras (All Star Outfield)

Pitcher LHP To be determined

RHP Nicols

I don't think Shover has the bat to be compared with some of the other top SS's in the area. He and O'Hara are similar fielding, but O'Hara is a better hitter.

 

Has O'Hara even played any varsity yet? I know I saw him playing JV last year.

Ryle SS last year was Wagner if I remember correctly. That kid would've played short for any team in NKY which is why O'hara didn't get moved up. With Helmer, Leatherby and O'hara Ryle has a a few options because all can hit have good speed and solid gloves. Helmer has tremendous arm strength which will hurt O'hara but I'm sure Leatherby will be the man!

No, Wagner played 2B and Humphrey play SS for Ryle. O'Hara played a variety of infield positions for JV. I suspect he'll be the starting 2Bman for Ryle this season.

I commented favorably on him in another thread a while back. I've seen him for a couple years in SWOL and he is indeed very good. However, he still needs to prove something on the field here in NKY to be proclaimed the "best" SS. But I would certainly say he's in the top 3 at this point. I'll be interested to see Bellevue's schedule to see what type of competition he'll face.

There is only one junior from Ryle on that list and I am not sure which one you don't think is that good. Here we go again with the varsity experience thing again!

What is the deal with the JV/Varsity experience issue? If you pay close attention, some schools play varsity players in some JV games (when they count). So you could say that depending on who the opponent is, these JV players have played against some varsity players.

I am pretty sure everybody is "thinking" right now on if they are going to be good or not. Nobody is sure of anything because they have not proved themselves. You cant say they are good or bad if they haven't played a game yet.

 

I don't buy any "they look good in practice" stuff because you aren't facing another team. It will be interesting to see how they do. I see them as 3rd or 4th best team in the 9th.
