Shover was (is, actually) a good baseball player. I don't think this is a huge loss at all for CCH. A loss, to be certain, but they have solid middle infielders without him. It's certainly not like losing a top starting pitcher.

 

Heard CCH is now down to 13 juniors and seniors. Can that be correct?

Other candidates at middle infield for CCH, from what I hear, are george and eggemeier...

Oh well, we just keep going round and round. One post you claim last year is critical in deciding who will be good this year and in the next post last year's performance doesn't mean anything. Count Ryle out of the mix all you want. It is certainly your right to do so. I say they'll be there at the end. And Ryle and Beechwood will most definitely hook up this year and all our speculating now will be rendered quite meaningless. But my final statement on this is that if you think Ryle is devoid of talent this year, you are very, very much mistaken.

Ryle has a lot of talent. I won't be suprised if they win the region.

8 players and their top 4 pitchers, three returning players have over 30 innings of playing time at the varisty level, Sebald, Campbell and Chandler. However, Sebald and Campbell got those 30 innings at the same position, left field and both also had some additional innings on the mound. Ryle has plenty of talent, it just might take a little time to get it to the top!

A few of the seniors had to wait their turn from last years state bound team, although Sebald and Campbell played regularly, and the vast majority of these boys play select baseball in the summer. A half dozen or so already made the top 18u travel teams in NKY for this coming summer. I will contend that overall the competition they played against this past summer is better that what they will face during the spring season, there is always a few exceptions. You can't tell me that a junior from a smaller school is better than the juniors from Ryle just because they got to play varsity last year out of neccessity. If he is a more talented player that is one thing, but this varsity experience thing for the most part is way over played on here.

Don't know about the "excellent" part. Good, for sure. Maybe so about SS, but I can guarantee you he wasn't going to play one inning there this year. And I think a lot of people question why he didn't get a bit more of a chance last season.

I believe several of the players that played baseball last year, are playing lacrosse this year for CCH.

Ill tell you why it matters because how many of those JV players got to see a pitcher like Matt Nichols or Cody Elliot someone with an above average fastball.. and besides sitting the bench how many of those players for Ryle got to see what varsity playoff atmosphere is like? Its a totally different game.. Talent is talent maybe but if they aren't exposed to "better" talent then what is at the JV level then they will behind the 8 ball!

There aren't many kids that make it to the varsity level without first going through JV ball, especially at the larger high schools. Yes, at smaller schools it happens all the time due to a lack of numbers, but not because they are varsity quality at 8th and 9th and even 10th grade levels.

 

BTW, those Ryle JV players now on varsity saw pitchers of that caliber ALL summer long.
