Is it true that Dustin May is headed to Georgetown as well? It appeared in the Lexington Herald this morning under Georgertown signees. If so, look out Mid-South the Tigers are loading up for another quality class to go with a great returning team. I know it's NAIA but there will be some great matchups and games in our backyards!!!!

I agree, Dustin May is a great player and will be outstanding at the next level.

With May,Tolle and Simpson returning from d-1 those three G-town got can play.

May was one of the best players in the state, but did he have D-1 speed.

Did he sign with G'Town? Certainly no knock against G'town, great education....I just thought May could go D-1.

 

This reminds a little of the Doug Howard situation a few years back. Howard was a great football player.

Dustin May made a great decision, here's why....

 

1 Was he going D-1 to an SEC or top tier program? Probably not but he is a very good player and could have gone to a WKU or similar.

 

2. He get's an outstanding education and plays for a playoff bound, possibly national championship contender.

 

3. If you are a stud and want to get maximum playing time AND want a profession, could there not be many others with the above credentials.

 

I see some special days ahead for him and his TIGER teamates.

Georgetown is a very good back up plan for most players. The SEC schools, Louisville, WKU, and OVC do not miss players on purpose. Players go to Georgetown because they are not OVC or SEC players, but that is not a bad thing. Georgetown is in the great position because they have been really successful that they get the players that might not be good enough to get a scholarship at a SEC or OVC school, but could walk on and might earn one. This is a great thing for Georgetown.

He is in fact going to Georgetown, from my understanding UK and Marshall both offered perferred walk ons but no schollys, in my opinion they missed the boat, but maybe Im biased. But I think he has the speed to go with size.

But G'Town is a incrediable school that has it going on and this is a big honor, for both May and the Tigers.

May, is a fine player and will have a big future at G-Town.

He could have played in the OVC as well as future teamate Megargel from Somerset. Both were looked at very closely at EKU but after the coach left so went the desire to go there. Let's see, a degree from EKU or Georgetown? Who said football players don't have the smarts? Maybe some of those OVC boys can work for these guys one day.:banana:

I think fans too often want to see local players play D1, but I don't always see this as the best thing for the athlete. If they are the RARE breed who can be successful and play significant roles on D1 schools, then by all means, go there. However, just being a great high school football player does not correlate to playing time at the D1 level (just see David Jones at UK. GREAT high school running back, and he's found a role at UK, but NEVER is in the mix for one of their running back spots; yes, I know he is playing some defense, but you see my point).

 

The way I see it, if you are one of these types of players, which 99% of ALL great high school players are, then why go D1 as a walk-on and be a scout team player? I would go to a smaller school with them paying, ala Georgetown or Centre, and be able to start, contribute, and play the great game on the next level. It's not a knock, except to a few fan's egos who truly have good intentions, but want to be able to say, "Player X, from our school, is playing D1".

I agree with you 100% Grover, I would rather be a bigger fish in a small pond than vice versa.

 

 

Your point may be lost on David Jones, though. He was not recruited as an offensive player, he was recruited to play DB.
