If I had to pick regions, I would probably pick the 2nd, 14th, and 16th regions to have A schools be representing them at Rupp, with UHA being a clear favorite in the 2nd, JBS and Hazard fighting it out in the 14th, and Elliott or Rose Hill in the 16th... (Someone correct me if I am wrong on a region there...)

In 2000 - Newport Central Catholic won the All 'A' Classic at EKU then lost in the first round to Lou. Male in the Sweet 16.

 

In 2003 - St. Henry won the All 'A' Classic at EKU then lost in the first round to the eventual Sweet 16 champs Mason Co. w/Lofton in a very close game. :cry:

I would say Paintsville will be the only one, maybe not even them.

Elliott County and Paintsville

Hazard, Paintsville, and UHA are the only one's that made the All A state that have a legitimate shot at the sweet 16. Yeah I know Rose Hill has beaten Elliott Co. once already this year so therefore they have a shot, but I don't think they can beat Elliott again. JMO.

As much as we may not want to admit it, its something of a testament to how weak mountain basketball is that most teams mentioned in this convo are mountain schools.

 

Or you could look at it as a testament to the economic situation in the mountains that so many people are leaving that most of the schools in the mountain regions also qualify to compete in the "All A."

4th -- Barren Co

5th -- Bardstown

9th -- Holmes

10th -- Mason Co

11th -- Bryan Station

12th -- Lincoln

13th -- South Laurel

I don't know many of the teams in the 8th Region, but I just don't see Oldham Co. making it to the Sweet 16.

The teams with decent chances are Paintsville, Hazard and University Heights. I would say in that order. Maybe Gallatin County or Rose Hill ...

 

I'd have to agree. Rose Hill is a good team and could see them at Rupp. For the Wildcats, the 8th Region is wide open, and they could take it without question.
