Yes, he was good at UK, but he's playing better than that in the NBA right now.

 

I remember Dicky V talking about his. He was talking if Rondo stayed all 4 years what an incredible player he would be. He has abou tthe best temmates you could have right now, but maybe he was still maturing into a better player. Think Azubukie went pro after his junior year. Think if he had stayed with Rondo for his senior year, that wouldv'e been a pretty darn good team with everyone else.

Disagree...I thought Rondo played very well while at UK. When he was at UK, it was the others who played selfish.

I think Rajon wanted to do it his way for a while, while OTS wanted it another. I feel that Rondo and OTS finally came to an agreement point late in his Sophomore year. Also, from what I understand, there was some problems with Sparks, and maybe he was part of the problem, as well.

Rondo is better at the pro game for two main reasons. One he is two years more experienced and has grown even more as a player. Secondly and most importantly he fits the pro system better than he did Kentucky's. I have said time and time again if Rondo was allowed to Run and Gun and go wide open for the Cats then he would have produced much better numbers, along with everyone else. Lets not forget in high school also against premiere competetion on the same level he was dropping 25+ assists 20+ points in some games. Thus it was known he had great potential to keep growing into an offensive stud. However, at UK his game got slowed down tremendously and he was even reprimanded for trying to force his own thing sometimes. Now hes back into a system that allows him to run, and with much looser leash. Getting yougood numbers once more.

First I do agree he fits the NBA style much better. However he knew when he came to UK what style Tubby ran. I mean its not like he got stuck with it, he had a choice and choose to come here once Pitino didn't want him anymore. Then I mean his freshman year he just went out and played the system Tubby wanted, and did GREAT, and the team did great and barely missed the final four. Then his sophomore year he started to try to do his own things, and just created all kinds of problems for the whole team. I mean yeah that run and gun style fits him better, however he could have been still great in the style Tubby ran if he just let it happen. Because I mean we saw that his freshman year, when he just did what he was suppose to.

I admit that I thought he was a fool for going to the NBA when he did, but he's proven himself well. It's always good to see a Louisvillian doing well.

If he bought into Billy G's system then I think he would have done great. Just like if he would have bought into Tubby's system like he did his freshman year, then I think he would have been great as well. Now would either system be the absolute best system for him, no. However that would have been his choice to come here to play in the system the coaches run.

Yes, because Billy doesn't have a particular style. He coaches based on the type of player's he has. IMO he would have utilized Rondo and capitalized on the things he does best instead of trying to change his game completely.

Everything about Billy G so far here at UK and at Texas A&M, shows that he is a half court guy as well. So you even say that the run and gun style fits best for Rondo, but Billy G does not run that either. So why do you think he would have done so much better though with Billy G? I mean if he bought into the system yeah he would have done good. But if he bought into the system with Tubby he would have done good as well. I mean there is even evidence to support that. I mean his freshman year, you can tell he bought into it and did what Tubby wanted and did great and the team did great.

 

There is no question that the run and gun is his best style. However the half court offense that both Tubby and Rondo run, would have still been good for him if he just bought into it. So I don't think you can say he would have done better at all, since it would have still been the same half court type game.

Tubby was too hard-headed to change his style of offense for one of the best PG's. Rondo had the ability to run, but Tubby made him run that half court offense. Rondo could have drove to the basket almost every time.

Where teams would have fouled him and put him at the line where as a soph he shot a tremendous 57% from the charity stripe. Rajon driving to the hole every possession was not the answer, he was too big a liability shooting free throws.

 

Some players games just suit one style better than another. Some of the great all-time college players don't amount to much in the NBA and vice versa. I think it has as much to do with a players skill set as it does coaching at either level. Look at Prince he was a very good player under OTS but no one thought he would mature into the player he has become. I don't think he was held back in college, it's just the NBA and NCAA are as different as NCAA and high school are to each other.
