Either you know nothing about the chances of repeating a severe neck injury like the one he has or you don't care.

 

Is there a chance of an injury like that happening anyway, yes. It is going to be much higher for someone like him.

 

I never said I'd stop watching, just that I'd cringe everytime he was on the field.

On every play in the NFL there is a risk of a major injury. If he's cleared fully, and wants to come back, I'm fine with it...

 

You mean kind of like how Priest Holmes was cleared to play and come back and did so well with his neck injury? There may be a risk of serious injury on any given NFL play, but it would certainly be higher with someone having sustained Pollack's type of injury and playing his position. Tough to give up your dream and an awful lot of money, but I'll bet it'd be even tougher to live your life as a para/quadraplegic.

He has said before the only way he'd return is if cleared by the doctors and back at a normal risk for any further neck injury. So if he's cleared, then it's no different than any one else...

I agree. Most don't grasp the enormity of failure by both of Cincy's pro teams.

A couple quotes from Pollack:

 

"The toughest thing is that no doctor we've met with has been able to give us a percentage. Trust me. I'm not going to do anything stupid. If someone said there was a 50 percent chance I'd break my neck again, I promise I wouldn't go anywhere near a field again. We'll see."

 

Pollack doesn't think he could match that 3.9 now. But Friday's 6.69 is faster than his combine's 6.86 in the three-cone drill (a 30-yard route timing change of direction), and he is smashing his 1.67-second 10-yard dash the past few days.

 

 

 

Gil Brandt, czar of the NFL scouting combine, listened to David Pollack's time in the three-cone drill and crunched the number before spitting out the verdict.

 

"You have a time like 6.69 seconds for a defensive lineman and there is a high percentage that guy will make the Pro Bowl," Brandt says from Dallas.

From listening to him I think it has to be less than a 20% chance for him to come back.

It sounds like he is working out extremely hard to get in condition to play again in the NFL. I think this leans toward him coming back if cleared...

I think I heard him say if he came back it would be on a strictly limited basis. No special teams. He would have to be a DE instead of a hybrid LB. Something to the effect of LB's have the big collisions and DE's are doing more pushing and shoving.

 

 

If he's medically cleared and he and his family are ok with him playing, then I'd be ok too. But I hope he really thinks about it before taking that chance. He'll make a great coach at the end of his career.

 

He was quoted this week as saying that if the Bengals went to a 3-4, which he claimed he's been pushing them to do for years, that he would play OLB because he would be lined up on the line of scrimmage. If they stay in a 4-3, he would be a DE.

 

He also said that if it was 50-50 of him being more susceptible to injury that he would not play again. Basically he is going to have to be as good as new. If that were the case, decided by medical professionals not those on BGP, he would be fine in returning.
