I think UK has missed out on Shelvin Mack. If Gillespie wants tough ballplayers, Mack is his guy. They don't come any tougher than this kid. He handles the ball great, is long and plays great defense, can rebound, and his outside shot has really improved.

 

He's 6'2", I don't think there are many good rebounders in the SEC at 6'2", and I think Miller and DeAndre Liggins are much better recruits than Shelvin Mack.

Mack is having a better statistical season. He also has to do more for his team than Miller does. Miller will get it because he is going to UK.

I've seen Shelvin Mack play 4 or 5 times this season against seeing Miller twice. From what I've seen, Mack is the better of the two players. He simply does it all. I watched Miller take over the LexCath game, but Mack controls every game from the start. Tonight against Henry Clay his shot wasn't falling so instead of taking the jumpers he would give a head fake, drive in, and dish. He probably had 11-13 assists tonight. I haven't seen Hopson play this season, so I can't comment on him. I'm working the Mason Co./Henry Clay on Friday, so I'll get a nice comparison between Mack and Miller this week. All that being said, in this state the kid who is more known (and usually a UK recruit) will win Mr. Basketball. Thus, unless Mack averages a triple double for the season and leads Station to the 11th Region championship and beyond, I have a hard time seeing Darius Miller not winning Mr. Basketball this year.

I don't think anyone is saying Miller will get because he's signed with UK. The point that some are trying to make is, the "voters" may be a little biased. That being said, I have only seen Miller, can't comment on the others.

There is Darius Miller and everyone else.

 

No one else stands a chance.

 

We have played against both players and Shelvin Mack is by far the best.:fight:

I agree it should go to the best player but I think some voters get their judgement clouded.

I read in an article that Mack wanted to get out of the state. I don't know if UK ever contacted him or not but from the article it appears like he wouldn't have come anyway.

I give you props for trying to support someone from your team, but Miller, Mack, and Hopson are on a completely different level than Taylor Stewart.

I saw Miller and Mack in the BS-MC game. Miller and Mack played to a standstill; MC's supporting cast was better. I didn't get to see the UHA-MC scrimmage, but the report was that Miller scored 41 and Hopson 17 in that pre-season matchup.

 

I'm thinking it's between Miller and Mack right now.

 

I think thats what is going to happen. IF Mack can get to Rupp, I think he has a real good shot at it..If not and Mason goes, Miller will probably get it.

Darius Miller has the edge because of his commitment to UK. Hopson and Mack are fantastic players, maybe even better than Miller, but Mississippi State and Butler recruits don't usually win this award.

I don't think he would lead the SEC in rebounding, but he could get his fair share. I have seen all three play (Mack, Miller, and Liggins), all are very good ball players and will make fine college players. I just think that Mack has the intangibles to lead. Similar to Lofton. Let's not forget that Rondo, Bradley, and Crawford were suppose to be much better recruits than Lofton. Four years later Lofton has led Tennessee to a top 5 ranking, while Bradley and Crawford has led UK to an 8-9 record with an upset victory over the Vols.
