I would like for the state to go down to 5 classes, the first four being due to male enrollment, with the top class being 16 teams, and it being a voluntary SUPER class.

I would like for every school in the Commonwealth to the beneficiaries of open enrollment.

I would like for the playoffs to get reseeded in the 3rd, and 4th rounds of the tourney.

Go back to 3 classes and only let the 1st and 2nd place teams from a district go to the playoffs. Start the season at the end of August and wrap it up on the Thanksgiving weekend. Football goes on way to long..

School districts that want football to improve must work hard to improve every facet of the game:

Coaches - attend coaching clinics, develop assistants

Players - off season workouts, youth league development, work to get students to play who don't currently

Community - media, fans, parents build support by showing enthusiasm, attend scrimmages and games, write about it, talk about it

Winning Program - success breeds success

Facilities - weight/training equipment, video systems, practice and game fields, stands, concessions, lighting, you name it - start little, get bigger as you get funding and community support

It won't happen overnight, and in many places it won't happen at all. Football is the most resource intensive sport there is. There is lots of equipment, facilities and a large number of bodies needed just to have football.

In NKY there are many small, exempted school districts that have football. Consider merging those small districts into larger ones. I know it's a cultural, community thing, and hard to do, but possible.

Simple thing, but if playoff system continues as is, at least not make the district teams play each other in the first round. In a lot of districts, district teams played each other the last week of the season and then the following week in the playoffs. Make the first round at least out of district games, and seed them like #4 in District 1 vs #1 in District 2, etc, etc.

Actually I think basketball goes on for longer.

Even so I prefer it ending in December.

Agreed. Football goes no longer then basketball. I really don't understand when people say that football goes on to long. Ten games, or 15 if you go to the State Championship.

Ky HS football would benefit greatly by the implementation of middle school football programs and competitive leagues by the respective school systems. This would establish effective feeder programs into the high schools and improve the overall level of quality of football played at the HS level by beginning to emphasize the fundamentals to large numbers of kids at an earlier age.

I agree, this is one of the biggest advantages that Trinity and St.X have over their opponents in the Louisville area. The CSAA is really almost unequalled in the state in my opinion in the size and scope of athletics that it governs. Football wise though it is night and day, our kids are playing football in 2nd grade for their grade school teams all the way through 8th grade when they make their decision as to whether they wish to be a Shamrock or Tiger. Although recently many have decided to become Crimsons as well.

I couldn't agree more. If you look at successful programs around the state, you will see well organized, productive, and complete feeder programs from the JFL to middle school programs.

I agree with this as well. The most important part of this is they are playing for a "TEAM" for those years and play for their school. When you compare this to the problems facing kids playing for their youth league program, you get into kids "bouncing" from league to league sometimes. Make the decision to play for a league or school and stick it out! PERSEVERE and earn the respect you crave! Play for school pride and to make your parents (and yourself) proud, don't look to transfer and go somewhere you will be "showcased". This is how you build programs and tradition, the winning comes if there is a commitment (from the ground up) to a program. The students have to commit to making the grades to stay eligible, commit to practice hard, commit to play with pride, commit to the philosophy for the sake of the program. This is what the CSAA instills in the majority of their kids.

You have that already, the Optimist League.

I think that if it was directly associated with the schools it would be much different and, in all honesty, much better.

I think most people will agree that it doesn't go long enough. However, I see that you have a baseball avatar that speaks volumes:thumb:

How true your comments are. Some kids today are allowed by their parents to dictate what they will or won't commit to. Some kids today are victims of parents trying to live vicariously through little Johnny's success...therefore, if you won't play him, we'll take him where he will get time. Either of the above situations breeds a "me first" attitude. And when it comes to team sports, there's absolutely no room for that, IMO. I agree that the CSAA is a wonderful agent in the philosophies you espouse. Thank you for recognizing it as well!:thumb:
