UKBasketball
The scorebook keeper for Elliott is very good at her job and has done it for years for the girls.QUOTE] She did however have a mistake in the first half. Devin Kawada had 2 fouls according to both radio stations and East scorebook keeper. Put them in the bonus a foul early not to mention a player on the bench for the rest of the half and most of the 3rd.

ky hoopster
I missed the Rowan game to go to Sandy Hook and watch this one. Look like either one would have been a good choice. Would liked to have saw the Vikes win but didn't think they would. I have watched Elliott three times out of the 16th and three times in the 16th and the ref's in the 16th let the Ferguson kid take a beating and wont blow the whistle. The older ref who reffed tonight was in one of the other games also. He was standing right beside him tonight several times when he got hammered and no call. It was almost like he had something against him. That being said East gave Elliott all they wanted. I'm thinking now Rowan may have just had a bad night when they played Elliott. Hopefully we can rematch in Regional tourney.

I noticed East had a T at beginning of game and when Elliott played Rowan, Rowan had a T at beginning of game also. Things like that and the kid getting no calls makes you wonder about ref's sometime's.

I have maintained that East plays the best defense in the region and they showed it last night. They were also well prepared and made adjustments to handle the press. The guards were effective ball handlers with only 13 team turnovers, and they controlled the boards. This game should serve as a wake up call to Elliott's fans and players. The rest of the region will not roll over and play dead for them. However, Elliott played a good floor game with only 11 turnovers. Free throw shooting was horrible and almost cost them the game. Rebounding was also weak. Timmy Knipp played well offensively and blocked several shots, but he needs to assert himself as a rebounder. East played very physical with Ferguson and the Faulkners and they still put up good numbers. Those kids refuse to lose. Elliott missed Chris Knipp most of the second half, apparently due to an ankle injury. As for the officials...they were consistently bad on both ends and it took away from a great game. Brandon Baker is an excellent coach and had his team well prepared. He also must whine to the officials more than any coach in the Region.
Lion Mania
Elliott is 15-1 and ranked between #4 and #7 in the state. They will be fine and last night may have been the one chance for a region team to beat them this year. Good teams find a way to win when it seems the odds are against them. THEY WON and will win plenty more. But, yes the region is not rolling over. I think Elliott proved they can take your best shot and still find a way to win. And I would hope their competitive juices are saying, come on you other teams and give us your best shot like East did. They need to be challenged if they are going to advance in March!!! I believe they will win 30 games and that will probably be some kind of Elliott record for wins in a season. I still don't think a region team will beat them. May be several more close games in single digits, but again the will find a way to WIN. That's what champions do!!!
BogeyMan
Elliott's a great team and will set many school records this year. But you can't take anything for granted. This close call will help Elliott in the long run.
Ms Liberty
This "win" last night needs to be a wake up call to the coaching staff, USE your bench, 2 players sitting last night were Big factors in the wins last year.

hootscoot
Elliott DOES have a bench he just chooses not to use it. ! ! ! To start, I am not from Elliott county, but have seen several of their games, I also was at the East Carter and Elliott game last night. The game was very tight most of the game, however I did observe Coach Mays useing three of his bench in the first half and in the second half periodically, so to say he does'nt use his bench is unjustified. I also agree with "bball jones61st" post as to the refs in the 16th region failing to make calls when the Ferguson kid gets totally clobbered. I too think that the refs let this happen intentionally for some reason. Could it be because they have a vendetta with some of his family, if so this is very unethical behavior for any adult, much less an official to penalize a child for something someone else may or may not have done. That being said East Carter seemed to come prepared for Elliott and played a very good game. It seemed when Baker went to the score table for some reason and stopped the game for about 5 minutes he changed the momentum of the game, not sure how much Elliott was ahead at that time, but was around 15 points, and the tide turned to East from that time forward. I personally thought that was the purpose for his delaying the game, because Elliott was on a roll untill that happened. Not sure what the stoppage was for, but the refs should not let things like this happen especially for that long. When you are hot you are hot and stoppages can take that away.:fire:
eastfan
I was at the game and I didn't see any plays where Ferguson got "clobbered" and there was no call. Ferguson is well known around the region for "flopping" after a 3 point shot. He use to get the foul call from the officials but now most officials are wize to the "flop". Not to take anything away from Ferguson - he is a very good player and IMO the best 3 point shooter is the area but I don't believe the officials missed any calls involving him. If anyone got "clobbered" it was East Carter's Drew Johnson. IMO he had several "and one's" that were not called. Also a no call when Johnson went down hard after collision with Chris Knipp. As for Coach Baker stopping the game I believe it was the officials that stopped play. First occassion was a controversy regarding team fouls - scorekeeper had East Carter with 7 team fouls and let Elliott shoot 1 and 1 when East really only had 6 team fouls and second time was regarding two Elliott players in book with same number. IMO the officials missed calls on both ends but IMO it did not affect the outcome of the game.
16th62nd
Few observations of some posts in this thread: As for Ferguson not getting the benefit of the whistle, I truly hope you are not serious. Johnson(East) would love to get the same whistle some other players in this region get As for Baker being at the scorers table, the officials stopped the game and any coach would want to know what is going on: the official scorebook was the reason for play stoppage so she hurt your momentum. BogeyMan you need to see more games throughout the region and check out the other 16th region coaches.
sidelinecoach
Saturday a player forgot his white jersey so he had to borrow one. It was # 12 and the younger player sat out. tonight they both were on bench and they still had both at # 12. Thats what I was told. would not swear to it though because I didn't see it. Between 4 Assistants and a Stat guy on the bench, plus the scorekeeper there is absolutley no reason this should happen! It ends up being a 1 point game & something like this easily could cost a team a game.
