Memphis should be No. 1

Featured Replies

Nor did they do anything to earn it. They were not the reigning nat'l champs.

Memphis does about all it can do to compensate for their conference shortcomings. It wasn't Memphis's fault that Cinn., Louisville, Depaul, Marquette jumped ship for a stronger conference. If Memphis had their choice they would do the same...but where?

As it is looking today, maybe Kansas should be No. 1. They have been very impressive.

At the end of the day, all that matters is the NCAA seeding. However, that makes a difference! The last two years, Memphis has had to go to the West region. It would be nice to be able to play closer to their home, if when the opportunity presents itself at tourney time.

So, Florida should have been #1 in the preseason because they were the national champs? Someone has to start off at #1, and all you can base that on is last season and who they have returning. Really, the polls are meaningless in college basketball. It might help with recruiting and that's about it. UNC, Memphis, and Kansas all can stake claim to #1 right now. Like I said, Memphis' non-conference schedule is probably tougher than anyone's but UNC and Kansas are in tougher conferences.

The great thing about NCAA basketball is that it doesn't matter. They'll both have a shot to prove they're #1.

So one undefeated team hasn't earned the #1 spot but the other #1 team has?

Doesn't matter, rank whoever you want #1 right now. It means nothing except that you're now a bigger target...

I think Kansas is the best team in the country.

I hate Memphis so I say no.

Memphis St has been my #1 since the season started...

I hear they're expecting big things from Keith Lee.

I agree, and that's why college basketball's post season is far better than college football's...

Memphis will be lucky to make it to the elite 8. CUSA will keep them ranked high for the remainder of the year, but it will also leave them unprepared. The high ranked teams they beat were early in the season. It means a lot more to beat a high ranked team in February than in November. Also when you play every good team on your schedule at home it helps a lot.
