There is a BIG difference between Stone and Allen however, the situations are NOT comparable.

THEY are Comparable in that the school tries to dictate the wheres and whens of the kid playing. There is no question as to circumstance, but the underlying situation is EXACTLY the same. School A is saying you can't go to school B under any circumstance with the transfer.

What does UL gain by not allowing him to transfer to Arkansas? Other than a moral victory against Petrino. Even then, why would UL be upset with Petrino?

 

They give themselves a security blanket against a potential exodus.

I have to respectfully disagree on this one RockPride. It just seems very hypocrticial. But it's not like UL is the only hypocrite. So many of the other schools (including UK) have acted like this and it gets old. I can see blocking a kid from a fellow conference school but the line has to end there.

You can, you'd simply have to pay for it for one year, then go on scholly.

SO, what you are saying is that COACHES should abide by contracts, too, for they sign with the university and none sign contracts that say "until something better comes along"? IF a LOI or Contract is expected to be honored whole heartedly by the kid but not the coach, it's still wrong. If the coaches can leave, the kids can leave. What UofL is pulling is pure crap. They called crap on it when UK did it, now the ball's in their court and they are pulling the same thing.

If a kid's not happy or wants to follow the coach and is willing to sit out the year, let him go. UK fought Stone, but Stone got what he wanted in Louisville, so this kid deserves that same chance. As the paper said today, how big was the runoff to UofL from UK when Stone got to go? NO ONE ELSE!

 

This will all end in court and the kid will go where he wants.

 

You're right, coaches should, and when they don't they often have to pay a penalty...just as a penalty for Allen is that he can't go to whatever school he wants and immediately be on scholarship. He can pay for one, and then go...sounds great to me.....either way, those who disagree with what I said regarding a kid signing with the school, and not the coach. That is fact, and it can not be disputed. Now, I am not too naive to think that kids don't go to schools for said coaches, but it is up to their coaches, parents, themselves to think about the repercussions of said coach mabe not being there.

After the season UL had its understandable that they would be careful about where they allow their athletes to transfer... there might be more young men who feel their stock went down (and will stay down) with the hiring of Coach K and might feel they would be better suited with the coach that recruited them…

Exactly....while it is not attractive, and rather expensive as an out of state student....Amos states that he wants the best for his son, and his possible NFL future. If they feel so strongly about "the best" being at Arkansas, pay, or get a student loan, if the NFL is indeed in the Cards (no pun), then that will be peanuts. For what its worth, I don't see an NFL future for Anthony. He's a likeable kid, but lacks some discipline for an NFL caliber back.
