I think I am accurate is saying that a full-house at the Fieldhouse would equate to 2,300 being turned away at Montgomery County.

With that being said, I don't think as many "casual" fans will make the trip to Mount Sterling as they would to Maysville just to take in the regional tournament this year which might account for the differential in seating and permit everyone to get in. That will also effect the share money that the participating schools have grown accoustomed to receiving, unless the "guarantee money" that I heard Montgomery County was putting up, makes up the difference.

I attended the girls regional tournament last year as a broadcaster and while the facility is nice, it had its shortcomings. No press box or broadcast facility for one.

To me the Mason County Fieldhouse is and will always be the 10th Region Tournament. I don't want to hear about "home court advantage" etc.. It is the price we pay for getting to play in the most wonderful high school basketball venue in the state (O.K. arguably the most wonderful), and if it stays there forever, it is just fine with me.

I expect that the 37th District might throw their hat in the ring to host it at the new NKU facility down the road. While I live within walking distance of that venue, I will happily drive to Maysville to have it at the Fieldhouse.

Is that a strong enough statement???

Great comment Mustang! I for one feel sorry for the kids from Northern Ky and their 2 hour bus ride. People seem to forget that these kids have to actually get up and go to school the next day! But by all means lets be fair. I would rather see the tournament be held at the Devil Dome in Mt. Olivet. At least you don't have to drag a small child out on the floor to get from one end of the gym to the other like I did last year at the girls finals. THERE IS NO ROOM behind the scorers table to walk!!!! Plus you couldn't ask for a more central location. Take a look at a map!

The atmosphere of the 10th region has always been special. It looks like it won't be this year. Graduating from a small 10th region school, I have only recently become a royal fan. I have attended all 10th regional tournament games for the past 25 years but I will NOT attend all the games this year. I will also not spend one dime in Mt. Sterling. I will drive to Lexington or eat in Flemingsburg. Don't count on much money from the Mason fans who will swarm into Mt. Sterling and LEAVE!!

Maysville to Winchester isn't so bad; when you live in Maysville you're used to being an hour from anywhere.

Good point, but I still think this region is way too spread out. GRC, Bourbon, and even Montgomery are close enough to Lex to be in the 11th (of course they wouldn't want to be, but it still makes sense)

Take Montgomery and Clark out of the 10th region would make it automatic for Mason to go to the state about every year. Georgetown isn't too far from Maysville so maybe they should be in the 10th. IMO Fleming is entirely out of place being in the 16th. Someone has to be in the 10th.:dancingpa

Montgomery County is bordered by:

Two 10th Region counties

Two 16th Region counties

One 14th Region county

They are kind of in no-man's-land as far as what basketball region they belong in.

For everyone who attended the Girls Region final last year everyone would probably agree that it was near capacity. I know from a good source that there were only 1700 paid. Everybody must remember that a full section in stairs are roped off for each band. Passes to each school in the Regions not only those that are playing. No Press boxes, visitors scores and stats places to sit. Montgomery's table only has room for their people. With this said, I don't see more than 2000 paid at the finals especially if it Mason vs Montgomery or Clark. Remember the finals last year. I just feel sorry for those other 1500 or 2000 loyal basketball fans that will not be there whether or not local business picks up the difference. :irked::irked::irked:

Thats really mature.... seeing that everyone that comes to Maysville for the tournament spends money quite often in Maysville. That is your choice to not spend a dime in Mt. Sterling, Mt. Sterling will get plenty of revenue from the tourny with or without you.

Glad to see you agree that it is about the money and not about the kids. By the way, I don't live in Maysville and could care less about how many people eat in the restaurants. Other than the selfishness or jealously of 2 counties, there is NO other valid reason to move the tournament from where it has always been held.

I truly feel sorry for the kids from Northern Ky who must ride buses for 2 hours after late ballgames arriving home at 12:30 or later and must get up and go to school the next day. Aren't these children students first or is that something else that is less important than money?

THe Girls Region was packed last season there is no way they will hold all the fans for the Boys.

Why would the 38th vote to have it at NKU? I could see Pendleton Co. voting for it there because of the short distance for them. Do you honestly think Harrison Co., Nicholas Co, and Deming would go for that? That's over an hour for each school.

I think it safe to say that the 38th will vote for Mason Co.

I could see the following rotation when it comes time for each district to vote.

37th NKU

38th Mason Co.

39th Mason Co.

40th Montgomery Co.

Pendleton Co will not vote for Northern Kentucky. That came from a good source a couple of years ago. I can see it going to NKU for the 37th and it being held around the 9th. It can be done. To have 2 regions at one site.

I just found a seat! Count me in!

I bet you make Mason Co. fans proud.

1. You all have debated the number of seats in the two facilities - but does anyone know the number that have actually attended each of the sessions in the past few years. Other than a few references to games that fans couldn't get into, it doesn't sound like the tournment games have been full to capacity. The number of seats available may be a mute issue for the majority of the games.

2. OK so a lot of Mason residents won't be able to make the trip to any other facility, don't you think a few of the other 10th region residents haven't been able to make it to the games because of the previous location. Sounds like the change will give some people a chance to go to the games.

There are hallways behind both sides of the bleachers. You don't have to walk in front of anyone to get from one side or end.
