He is from Mercer County and I heard his dad coached at Boyle County at one time.

David's dad (John Buchanan) was coach at Boyle from 1969 to 1973. He was then coach at Mercer County. David played for the Scotties from '80 to '82 if memory serves. He was later an assistant on Larry French's staff along with Chuck Smith and Chris Pardue. So there are a few ties that are a little closer than Kevin Bacon's 6 degrees of separation. :thumb:

He coached there and did a fairly good job. The problem is that Garrard's expectations are a little different than Boyle's. A trip to the playoffs and the 2nd round was what Pardue was criticized for. (Right or wrong)

 

I kind of hope that they go out of the system this time to find someone.

I agree with Hatz, I think the Rebels need to try and lure a successful established coach outside the current system. Who that would be, I have no idea. Larry French from Lincoln Co. is high on my wish list. What a job he has done for the Patriots. It seems like the kids love playing for him.

 

Who knows, maybe coach Harp-(Danville) pulls a Benedict Pitino and comes to the West side. No, I'm just kidding. Thought this would be a good time to take a swing at coach Pitino. Go Cats!

If I thought French would consider it, by all means he would be up at the top of my list as well. I just don't think he would leave what he's building at Lincoln.

 

I think part of the problem with the Pardue era was he came from Smith's staff and people expected the same results from him that they got from Chuck. That's why it's best to get someone from outside the current staff.

Hester was 14-28 at Garrard County with one playoff appearance in four years. Garrard had been to the playoffs seven consecutive seasons prior to Hester becoming head coach (Hester was the defensive coordinator on those teams), twice losing in the third round. He was a bit hamstrung by moving up from Class A to AA during his term.

 

One problem of Hester's at Garrard was that the offense always seemed overmatched and the play-calling was very mediocre.

 

1997: 2-8, 15 ppg.

1998: 3-7, 13 ppg.

1999: 7-5, 30 ppg.

2000: 2-8, 17 ppg.

 

Jeff Hester is a great guy and a good defensive coach, but he's probably not who Boyle County wants or needs as their head man.

Hodge is a Varsity Defensive Backs Coach.

 

And a 1996 graduate of Garrard County where he played for Jerry Perry and Jeff Hester.

It won't happen, but what about Jerry Perry, longtime assistant at Danville and one-time head coach at Garrard County (65-18 record; playoffs every season at a school that had been ONCE TOTAL in 27 years).
