I like the rings. I think it is great that this group of players, not having all that much, if any contact with coach "Red Dog", still respect the spirit he brought to Highlands.

BTW.... I really liked and respected Coach Daugherty, both when he coached against us at Lloyd in Football and track and when he coached at Highlands. I played & graduated with two of his nephews who were both big time two way starters on two state championship teams. The whole family has a tremendous legacy in sports in NKY & beyond.

You nailed it. Exactly. I think some people(players and parents paying for it) would have liked to have seen the school name or mascot also somewhere on the ring. After telling my son about the ring not displaying Highlands or Bluebirds, he was surprised that there wasn't something on it somewhere. He said "Dad the Seniors designed it". I told him that was fine. Because I wouldn't want him to be looked upon as a "Nerd". But he's happy with it and very excited for the fact that they did win state.

Majority of teams (any level of competition) that design their rings use their Team symbol or mascot as an identifier on the ring. Also IMO, the bigger the better, as stated before after a month or two the rings are rarely worn much afterwards and look great displayed on a shelf/mantle.

Beechwood just finished designing their ring too. It has 5 diamonds on each side with State on top and Champions on the bottom. IN the middle there is a red tiger paw raised up off a bed of smaller diamonds. If you want to see it, look up the University of Minnesota's hockey championship ring and replace the M in the middle with a tiger paw. The design is pretty much the same.

 

Careful Surf. That was just ONE of the proofs given to us yesterday. The seniors got together and came up with basic concepts, and now the designs are flowing in.....

Final decision is NOT made.

Never heard of any school paying for a kids ring. My understanding is the each parent pays for them...if there kid wants one.

 

 

Per the KHSAA, they can fund raise as well.

I believe you misquoted me... I am agreeing with the ring design that the H is an identifier of Highlands on the ring, so no real need to put Highlands anywhere else if they want other writings on the ring, however I love the roman numeral idea.

I do agree with 2Rings that the "H" does identify Highlands. If it doesn't, then they need to re do the middle of Highlands field, their helmet, their pants and the large flags the cheerleaders use (just to name some of the items that use the "H" to identify Highlands).:ylsuper:

 

Only in Ft. Thomas are there fans that want to second guess EVERYTHING that the football program does (even the state ring design). I'm still waiting for those folks that said we HAVE to pass the ball more if we want to win state, to admit that they were wrong, wrong, wrong. What we do, pass it about 5 times in the state game while managing to beat a very good team by 21 points?

In keeping with the bolded portion of "second guessing"...and 'Crunch can attest to this...I SWEAR we used to have an "S" flag for the cheerleaders. Have I been nippin' the egg nog too much or does anyone else remember it?

Why 2 "H"s ?? Aren't we HHS? :confused:
